Over the Thanksgiving holiday:

Shin Godzilla (2016)

Kong: Skull Island (2017)

Justice League (2017)

Mord

Jigsaw - very enjoyable with an incredible twist. Warning, if you haven't seen the other films, you miss some of the references. Still, a great ride.

PLANET OF THE APES (2001) - Liked this way more than I thought I would.  All the bad reviews (and my love for the original) kept me from giving this a chance before. It happened to come on and I stayed with it.  Rick Baker's make-up on the characters was amazing. I liked the characters and the different take on the story.  Seeing Charlton Heston in his cameo also was a treat.  Not a classic, but a worthwhile viewing for me.

MONKEY SHINES (1988) - Another film that slipped past me.  Never realized this was a Romero film.  I really liked it and thought the acting and suspense were very good.  The little spider monkey was amazing (yes, I've always wanted one too), but I felt bad for him.

THE DESCENT (2005) - Yet another first time viewing.  Pretty decent with a creepy, claustrophobic feel.  I had trouble following a lot of the dark scenes though, maybe because I watched it on a tube TV.

THE HILLS HAVE EYES (1977) - I'd only seen this once at a drive-in back in '77 and remember it disturbing me quite a bit. Revisited it last night and it still packs a wallup.  I didn't realize that a young Dee Wallace (whom I love) was in it. I've also always liked Michael Berryman. Loved the dog getting a hold of his Pluto hehehe.

Monsters For Sale

10 Cloverfield Lane, 2016 - Young woman is held underground in a fallout shelter by a man who tells her that an unidentified enemy has attacked and made the exterior air deadly while she was unconscious.

I hadn't read any reviews about this one and watched it cold.

Nice shock beginning, multiple clues that point in opposite directions and a big shock ending.  Best of all, it let John Goodman use his acting skills and not have to embarrass himself in some crap like "Rosanne" just for the big paycheck.

I liked it.

Really enjoyed this one. Never saw the first Cloverfield and heard that it wasn't necessary to enjoy this film so went into rather blind and found it to be one of the best films I saw last year. Completely agree on John Goodman too. The man is an acting treasure and doesn't get enough chance to truly shine as he should.
