Finishing up the Columbia horror movies not on DVD.

The Son of Dr. Jekyll (1951) at Dailymotion

The movie starts with an exciting chase scene! Dr. J (as Mr. H) has just killed his wife and the townsfolk have chased him back to his house where he is killed in a fire. Jekyll's infant son grows up and takes over the "family business" and even though the movie's climax mirrors the opening, there are a couple of plot twists that lead to a satisfying ending.

Louis Hayward plays the title character. Other familiar faces include Alexander Knox ("These Are the Damned") and Rhys Williams ("The Inspector General"). Nice score by Paul Sawtell.

So, what did you think?

And are we supposed to think that's what the future will look like in 30 years?

Well, not trying to be a debbie-downer, but I'm a big fan of the original film, and found this one to be a little disappointing and unnecessary.

With the original film being set 2 years from now.... I think it's safe to say that our future looks (a tiny bit) brighter than the one presented here...hopefully!

NIGHT OF THE LEPUS (1972) - Only saw this once before at a drive-in back in '72.  We were drinking beer and I didn't remember much about the movie. I really enjoyed it this time! I must say, I think the effects hold up pretty well. A fun film with a neat cast.

I saw LEPUS at the drive-in, too. The miniature sets were well done, but the bunnies just weren't scary.
