The Man Who Could Cheat Death (1959)

Vampire Circus (1972) (on Blu)

I also watched all of the special features on the Vampire Circus BD. The docs are really good, especially the one about House Of Hammer if you're a monster mag nut as I am.  ;)

One of my favorite covers:

Howler

Friday the 13th part 7&8
House of Frankenstein
The Invisible Man Returns
"That ain't tactics honey. That's just the beast in me."

Captain America: The First Avenger (2011)

Evans was good but I think Tommy Lee Jones and Hugo Weaving stole the show. The Cap stories from the '60s in Tales Of Suspense/Captain America with Red Skull, Hydra, and the Cosmic Cube were some of the best ever, and made great source material to base the screenplay on. There were some changes, of course, but I think the movie succeeded in capturing the spirit of Captain America.

Excellent movie...and that's high praise from an old Marvelite. *salutes*

Hugo Weaving was excellent as the Red Skull; it's too bad he did such bad-mouthing of the film or they probably would have brought him back at some point. On the other hand, Haley Atwell is a total babe!

The Ghost Breakers with Bob Hope and Paulette Goddard! Loved it!

The Legend of Boggy Creek, 1972

This movie is a real standout in my viewing history.  It is hard for me to watch any film and not find something to take away - a camera angle, a funny line - something.  All I brought away from this was a burning desire to get that hour and a half of my life back.

Worst piece-of-crap, DVD copy of an early VHS tape I've ever seen.  Mush-mouthed, non-actor Arkies' badly recorded home movie played back on a warbly tape that looks like it was pirated off an over-the-air broadcast in EP mode.

I can't even console myself with. "Well at least I got a new DVD case out of the deal.", because I no longer have anything in a full-sized-sized case any more.  Everything has been moved into slim cases so they no longer have to be stored in boxes.

Total loss.

The Thing, 2011

Completely unnecessary prequel to the 1988 re-make.  I was wondering if I would have liked it any better if I had never seen either of the previous films - naw.  It starts out with some promise, but to quickly devolves into a simple chase movie before I get to feel any empathy for the characters.

I understand that aliens too often look humanoid, but it was difficult for me to identify with a creature that looked like something entirely outside of my realm of experience.  All the flailing rubber hoses didn't strike me as something biological - let alone anything that would be manipulating the controls of a sophisticated piece of machinery like the spacecraft.

I still like the first "Alien" best.
