Castle Of Blood (1964) (aka Danza Macabra)

More classic Barbara Steele Eurohorror directed by Antonio Margheriti. The plot involves a writer who takes a bet he won't stay in a haunted house during All Souls. The ghosts in the house replay their deaths and attempt to feed on the man's blood to prolong their hold on the prime material plane. Poe is a character in the film and reports the incident in one of his stories. Chilling horror. Barbara is a beautiful undead.

I watched the US version on the Severin Blu-ray, and while it isn't a bad presentation, it's still inferior to the Synapse DVD from 2002 which has the reconstructed international version which runs 89 minutes. The US version only runs 83 minutes.

The Severin Blu-ray is still a must-have since it has the definitive version of Nightmare Castle, the US versions of Castle Of Blood and Terror Creatures From The Grave!, and a plethora of special features.

"House of the Devil" & "The Babysitter" double feature. Both came out around the same time and are very similar. Bill Moseley finally gets to play the good guy in "The Babysitter".

If you like "HOTD", you should give "The Babysitter" a try. They're spun from the same cloth.

Nightmare Castle (1965) (aka The Night Of The Doomed)

Classic Eurohorror directed by Mario Caiano and starring Barbara Steele, Paul Muller, and Helga Line. Macabre gothic atmosphere, mad science, vengeful ghosts, and beautiful women... what more could any Eurohorror fan want? After seeing this film chopped up from crappy prints on PD compilations for years it's a real pleasure to finally see it fully restored with beautiful picture and clear sound on the Severin Blu-ray. It runs 104+ minutes with over 20 minutes replaced for us to enjoy. Very nice!

Thanks for posting these reviews HH. I've had my eye on this release since he came out. I read mixed reviews about the quality. Your stamp of approval is good enough for me though. Gonna order this soon.

It's a pretty package, geez. So great to see this Steele classic get such a nice release. It's brimming with special features too, including special features for the two bonus Barbara flicks. Barbara Steele fans will devour it.

"Summer Camp" - Just saw this little oddity in the theater. It's hard for me to pass up watching a small budget horror film on the big screen. This one is from Spain (though most of the dialog is in English). It's not a bad little film. No hockey masks or machetes, more of a "rage plague gone wild" film like "[rec]". I would recommend it to fans of that subgenre. The popcorn was good, too.
