Just watched "Carnival of Souls" - The Wes Craven remake. Now, I love Craven but this just isn't one of his finer moments.

An occasional remake wouldn't hurt, but there are just too many of the damned things. Some have been good but most are pretty lame. Apologies for being a sourpuss but I've developed a dislike for remakes in general. It seems that creativity has been on the decline for the last few decades. The best things about remakes are that sometimes we get new releases of the original movies, and sometimes new merch. I always revisit the original classics and very seldom have any interest in the plethora of remakes we are bombarded with.

Though, you have to admit that Hammer's remake of "Let the Right One In" was pretty damn good.

Yes, Let Me In is very good. And technically Night Of The Werewolf is a remake of Werewolf Shadow and both are excellent. I mainly don't care for this rash of remakes from the last few years where Hollywood is trying to cash in on name recognition with that drekk Tim Burton has been cranking out, and the big budget remakes for some of the classic sci-fi flicks. And then there are the ones which were shot so similar to the original that I wonder why they even bothered like Psycho and Invaders From Mars (and I love Tobe Hooper's older work). Some are really good. Most aren't.

Lately I've been trying to catch up with the non-Universal classic B & W horror films. So a few weeks ago I bought the Val Lewton TCM pack and watched Cat People, Body Snatcher, and I Walked with a Zombie.

Anyhow, I also picked up the "Hollywood Legends of Horror Collection" and watched Mark of the Vampire and Mask of Fu Manchu last night. Hope to watch Doctor X series and Mad Love this weekend.

Just watched both Doctor X films for first time. I actually liked "Return of Doctor X" a lot better.

I saw the Psycho remake (don't ask), and the scene were Vince Vaughn was dressed as mother elicited more laughter than most Adam Sandler films (not that that means much). Let's also never forget Nick Cage In that classy "Wicker Man" remake.
