I've been on a Toho kick recently. Fun stuff.

The Mummy (1932)

I love this movie and have seen it probably 1000 times, but I started watching it late and fell asleep about halfway through.  Jack Pierce's makeup was simply brilliant (some of his best IMO) and Karloff was, without a doubt, UNCANNY!

I hope this was not the case for the other 999 times? ;)

Godzilla vs King Ghidorah 1991. One of the better 90s Godzilla flicks even though it hastime travel plot holes bif enough for Godzilla to fit through and some Terminator 2 rip off scenes. Plus sides-it boasts a magnificent musical score by Maestro Akira Ifukube, great looking versions of Godzilla and Ghidorah, Mecha-King Ghidorah and some great fight scenes. It also looks FAN-FREAKIN_TASTIC on Blu-ray!!

Candyman 2 - not too bad for a sequel (Tony Todd can sell any movie for me)

Godzilla and Motha: The Battle For Earth 1992- Fun Big G brawl. Looks amazing on blu-ray-the colors just pop! Godzilla actually kind of takes a back seat here to the main story involving Mothra's conflict with her brother Battra, a black more beetle-like spiked insect. Mothra protects humanity while Battra's main concern is the Earth itself, and thus sees humans as a definite threat to the planet. Godzilla keeps butting in because , well, he just can't pass up a good fight! Unfortunately, for me, this is where the 90s Godzilla flicks started to go downhill. Mothra is given an antena beam which she never had nor needed before and Battra has both eye rays and a ray from the large horn on his head. Using all these beams and Godzilla's atomic fire, this was the first "beam war" movie with most of the monster battling consisting of everyone shooting each other with rays. There is still alot of physical grappling and Godzilla even bites so it's all good. the next film-Godzilla vs Mechagodzilla 2-is the very worst offender of the beam war syndrome .

Godzilla vs Mechagodzilla II 1993-Godzilla's 20th film! However this is probably my least favorite Godzilla movie (not counting the 1998 US abomination of course), which is too bad because it is very well written. And by least favorite Big G film just means I like it less than the others, I still greatly enjoy it and would much rather watch it than most any other churned out today. Wht it is my least favorite lies squarely with the effects and redesigns of MG and Rodan. Rodan , who was always Godzilla's right hand and nearly his equal, is now a tiny terribly designed and horribly stiff puppet. The new MG is almost as bad looking-where the original 70s version was a bloodthirsty alien war machine that was all points and sharp angles, this one is built by humans to combat the Big G and he is large and rounded-no angles or points or anything threatening looking at all.Godzilla himself looks fine but this waqs now the fourth film in a row that used the same basic Godzilla design and I was starting to get tired of it and ready for a new look . Baby Godzilla however is fantastic! The hatchling Godzilla is human sized and brought to life through a combination of suit acting and  a great animatronic version that conveys afull range of emotions. Godzilla and Rodan's first battle is great and very physical and brutal, but the rest of the fights are mostly just the monsters shooting rays at each other. In fact for a large part of the final battle the simply fly the empty MG suit around on wires as it shoots non stop rays. Akira Ifukube delievers a wonderufl musical score that combines several new themes with several classic monster themes from the 60s which won him the Japanese version of the Oscar. The Blu-Ray presentation is beautiful with many details I never saw before such as the veins in Rodan's wings and the speckles of color on his chest and the detailing of Baby Godzilla's skin.
