"OZ, The Great And Powerful" (2013)

Plot:
When shady circus magician Oscar Diggs (James Franco) is hurled away from Kansas into the wonderful Land of Oz, he thinks that fame and fortune are his for the taking. However, three witches -- Theodora (Mila Kunis), Evanora (Rachel Weisz) and Glinda (Michelle Williams) -- remain unconvinced that Oscar is the great wizard that the inhabitants of Oz need and expect. Reluctantly drawn into Oz's epic problems, Oscar must find out who's good and who's evil before it's too late.

Phantom's Review: Highly entertaining fantasy film. Good performances from the cast, excellent direction by Sam Rami and amazing special FX.
The nice thing is, you can believe these characters will actually grow into the iconic characters from the 1939 film.
A fun movie for everyone.

I personally didn't feel any connection to the '39' version from this, besides obvious nods/homages scattered throughout and instead of thinking of it as a prequel to that film I'd much rather see them do their own follow up with Dorothy's visit to Oz!

"Evil Dead" (2013)

Absolute piece of crap. Save your money.

Cleansed my film palate with.........

"Whatever Happened To Aunt Alice" (1969)

Geraldine Page stars as a woman bankrupted by her rich (she thought) husband's death as she discovers he lost everything before he died. So, how does a formerly wealthy society maven make ends meet under those circumstances? Well, of course, she hires maids with no family ties, murders them, buries them in the yard and plants a pine tree over them (terrific fertilizer apparently). Then she loots their bank accounts and belongings. The marvelous Ruth Gordon is her latest maid with a secret of her own.

8 bananas. Love it!!
We're all here because we're not all there.
