On the Chiller Channel last night:

The Thing (1982)

I have to say that this is one of the few sci-fi/monster remakes that I enjoy.  The remake likes of King Kong (70's or new), War of the Worlds, Planet of the Apes, etc. fall very short of me garnering even a little bit of enjoyment out of them.  I'll take the original for these anyday.  However, the remake of The Thing actually keeps my attention throughout.  As I have mentioned before, I am a sucker when it comes to the arctic being a setting in film and even though I find the original 1951 version superior, and really do not care that much for the special effects in this '82 version, the story and acting hold up nicely here, IMO.

Didn't this "Thing" pick up where the original ended?  The `51 version was way better, but then this one does have a little somthing going for it---Kurt Russell (even if the bum is going with my obsession Goldie Hawn).  This version isn't bad and i thought the story-line held up pretty well, but I agree the original IS way superior.

This morning I watched "The Zacherle Archives".  Sorry, I got side-tracked above.  Kurt Russell = Goldie Hawn = Icreased heartrate and heavy panting.

Horrible Horror, hosted by Zacherley...one of the very coolest horror/sci-fi clip reels!  Great clips and some very funny stuff from Zach.
Beautiful moving, shifting colors!

Horror Host day today.  Watched Zacherle, Count Gore DeVol, Dr.Creep, and our own lovely Penny Dreadful.  Also joined Penny's Fan Club from her own site.

Continuing our weekly monster installment leading up to Halloween:

Mad Monster Party (1967)

From Rankin/Bass who brought us the likes of Santa Claus Is Comin' to Town and Rudolph the Red-Nosed Reindeer comes there attempt at using monsters in a dreadful attempt at entertainment.  Though the monsters are neat looking and the sets developed are incredible, someone forgot the dash of Rankin/Bass charm and more importantly a decent story before shooting began.  Not even Boris Karloff as Baron Boris von Frankenstein helped much, IMO.  Even our 10 year-old thought it only so-so and I found myself nodding off throughout.  However, our 5 year-old seemed to find it much more engaging. ;)  I "believe" I only saw this once during my childhood, but it never seemed to be an annual showing.  Anyone else remember this as being the case?  However, maybe I did not see it and just saw stills in a magazine or something.

I remember "Mad Monster Party" running very seldom in the 70's.  Then in the 80's Tom Hatten would run it maybe once a year on his "Family Film Festival" show, a weekend TV matinee thing that I really enjoyed.
Beautiful moving, shifting colors!

Watched the last 1/2 of Squirm on cable. Putting on Man Made Monster as I type this.

I watched "The Man Who Laughs" last night.  That was the first time I'd seen it.  It was a very good movie, but not as dark as I expected based on things I'd read.  I watched "Cat and the Canary" and "Waxworks" a few weeks ago.  I've been trying to catch up with Paul Leni, a director I've long neglected.

Hi, all! New here and just thought I'd respond to this thread...the last horror film that I watched was THE SLIME PEOPLE(1962)..brought back some nostalgic creature feature days.
DARK SHADOWS:

David Collins: "Dead people dont just get up and walk around.."

Sarah Collins: "Sometimes they do."
