Well Jo ended up spending the night with some friends so we didn't watch Jeepers Creepers (Sam picked The Dark Knight instead); ended up watching The Video Dead later on after Sam and the wife went to bed.....

The Video Dead~bad writing, bad acting, shoddy direction, horrible f/x, loads of errors in logic and plotholes that you could get lost in for years.....What can I say I stuck thru the whole cheesy thing and kind of liked it!  The total 80's of it all was enough to bring a tear to the eye.  Definitely not the best of films and probably not for everyone but it isn't without its kitschy charms!

Phantom Stranger

Ghidorah, the Three-Headed Monster (1964)

Monster Zero (1965)

Phantom's Review: Two of the best "Godzilla" films from the '60's. Great monster action, cool man in suit FX and lots of fun. Best scenes, in "Ghidorah" the monster conversation and in "Monster Zero", Godzilla's victory dance. A great double feature

Tales That Witness Madness (1973)
C.H.U.D. (1984)
Aftermath (1994)
I hate to advocate drugs, alcohol, violence, or insanity to anyone, but they've always worked for me.

Abin Surly

Last night...Whale's Frankenstein and Bride of Frankenstein...both from the Universal Legacy Collection and both with commentary (although I can probably recite the commentary by heart at this point).  LOL

Memphremagog

Doomwatch(1972)
Doctor Who: The Space Museum(1965)
Star Trek: I, Mudd(1967)
Twilight Zone: Kick the Can(1962)
Giant From the Unknown(1958)

I picked up the blu-rays of The Ring and Melancholia.
I enjoy The Ring and the transfer looks and sounds great. It's good to see a horror film that doesn't try too hard. No forced sophomoric humor or smart_ass dialog; it stays on track. And there are a few iconic moments. I bought Melancholia sight unseen. Thirty minutes in and I was getting annoyed. Then it started to get funny in an understated way as the dysfunctional main character went about dismantling her world. For once, a film wasn't afraid to go to the darkest place of all; the utter destruction of all we know (well, there have been handful of others...On the Beach for one). The only other film I've seen by the director was Breaking the Waves with the amazing young Emily Watson.

Unknown Primate

How To Make A Monster (1958)
I really like this movie - it's a true guilty pleasure of mine.  Plus, it makes me wonder how awesome a Teenage Werewolf Meets Teenage Frankenstein follow-up would'ave been!
" Perhaps he dimly wonders why, there is no other such as I. "

...and it's a treat seeing some of Paul Blaisdell's masterpieces in color at the end.

- Dracula 1931

My favorite Universal, on my birthday
"For one who has lived but a single lifetime, you are a wise man ...Van Helsing."
"I shall awaken memories of love and crime and death..."

The Plague of the Zombies (1966)~It's been awhile since I've watched this (Anchor Bay vhs), it's a slow one but I enjoy it nonetheless!  It boils down to a "White Zombie" type set up, minus the love angle and it isn't the most lavish of Hammer's productions by a long shot, also the acting is somewhat stilted at times.  If you are looking for gut munching-brain hungry living dead then look elsewhere, these are voodoo zombies that do very little other than lumber around (and are mostly consigned to the films final 20 min or so); The make-ups aren't the most spectacular but they do the job; There is a really cool sequence of them coming up from there graves....maybe the first scene of it's kind?  One odd thing at the end of the flick is when some stunt-zombies wear overhead masks (for fire protection) and end up looking more like green Michael Myers than they do the undead.  For Hammer, voodoo or traditional zombie fans it is a must see!
