Well, I disagree with your assessment of The Wolfman (not perfect by any stretch, but hardly comparable with Jackson's Folly) but agree entirely on the other movies. I hate Jackson's "Kong" more with every viewing, but I still pop it in occasionally (with finger poised over the FF button) just because it LOOKS so darn good. Especially Kong in NYC (except for that cinematic abortion on the frozen pond.........freaking HATE that).

A missed opportunity.

Although I'm new to this board, from what I can tell so far Scatter you are a man of good tastes.  I agree, that the movie looks amazing, but it just feels so hollow.  I really do love in a blinding sort of way, the Kong design in the film.  Perfect.  If anything, I'm glad this movie came out because without it, I would have never got one of my favorite books of all time, WETA's Natural History of Skull Island book!

And I'd like to retract what I said about the Wolfman and Plant of the Apes...they aren't great movies but they are no where near as bad as Godzilla or King Kong or the 90's Frankenstein film!  Planet of the Apes in particular wasn't all that bad until the last 10-15 minutes where it all fell apart.  The same could be said for the Wolfman, but I believe it had some pretty big faults before the finale.

Obviously, your ability to discern my good taste verifies your own good taste. Naturally, good taste can always be tested by simply preferring the opposite of anything championed by CreepysFan, UP, or BigBud, but that's for another thread.

I actually walked out of Godzilla, and fell asleep during Deniro's turn as Franky (otherwise known as "Franken-Doze"). But I never did see POTA redux. What makes you (and others here) say that it fell apart at the end??

King, I agree with you about Jackson's Kong. I won't go into details about why I dislike this film, out of respect to the UMAers who have heard me expound on it before, but I'd actually rather watch the 76 Kong over this one.

And my brother Scatter typically has good taste, except for that little Star Wars problem of his...

I liked the first one when I saw it at 12 years old.  I hate sequels, prequels, and New Age tripe. And what's with George Lucas' hair anyway?

No problem.  :D

Haha...right on Scatter...I'm not a huge fan of Star Wars either.  I always liked Trek more...I like the idea of a universe where you can work your way to being a Capt. of a starship as opposed to being born with/without abilities and everyone else is just small fry.  I do like the idea of Anakin's fall from grace, its something that's classic, a story as old as man itself, but the way it was handeled was horrible.  I think the prequels could have been amazing had they been smaller character pieces (that didn't start with a movie that didn't need to be, an absolute waste of an entire movie about a child who accidently saves a planet) but these smaller character pieces would have needed scripts written by a different person, with films directed by someone else other than Lucas as well as using different actors.

As far as the POTA remake...
Well first, the end battle is kind of lackluster.  The poster to the film had terrific atmosphere, it was dark and gloomy with a blue-ish hue...the actual battle was shot in broad daylight and lacked the power of a single poster depicting the battle.  The conclusion of the battle just feels lazy, and rushed.  I can almost literaly feel Tim Burton just saying "screw it, it's good enough I guess, I'm tired of dealing with it," and the final "twist" is just laughable.

I bought the A Haunting box set a few days ago at a great price and with the crap weather this weekend we have been doing a marathon. Probably watched close to 20 episodes the last 3 days. These are "supposed" to be based on true events but several of the episodes have plot flaws and are kind of hard to swallow. Great entertainment anyway. If you like ghost stuff this is a must buy in my book especially at this price.

The Indestructible Man (1956)

Watching this movie, you can kind of see where Marvel Comics' Stan Lee, Jack Kirby, and Steve Ditko got some of their ideas for the origins of some of their heroes/villains...

An often maligned movie, but i like it. Got a bit of a crush on Marian Carr    :-*

- The Last Man on Earth

Caught this on TV. There's something about this movie that I just like...
"For one who has lived but a single lifetime, you are a wise man ...Van Helsing."
"I shall awaken memories of love and crime and death..."
