Long live the UMA!

I hate to advocate drugs, alcohol, violence, or insanity to anyone, but they've always worked for me.

The last few days I've watched:
"The Man From Planet X" (1951): interesting and mildly entertaining low budget sci-fi thriller about an apparent alien invasion threat. One of the few alien films of the '50's with a sympathetic alien character.
"The Abominable Dr. Phibes" (1971): arguably one of Vincent Price's best horror roles, as a vengeful madman seeking to avenge his wife's untimely death. Hey, if Caroline Munro was my late wife, I'd be vengeful too!
"Dr. Phibes Rises Again" (1972): the sequel is definitely not as good as the original Phibes movie, but it still has some enjoyable moments.
"The Legend of the 7 Golden Vampires" (1974): goofy but entertaining final chapter in the Hammer Dracula series. Woulda been better with Christopher Lee as Dracula, but c'est le vie. The disc also included the inferior cut that was released as "The 7 Brothers Meet Dracula".
"Frankenstein Created Woman" (1967): mildly entertaining entry in Hammer's Frankenstein series.

The remake of Halloween 2.  I hated it.  I'm glad I skipped it at the theater.
There's got to be a complete print of London After Midnight still lying around somewhere in somebody's barn/attic/whathave you...

And Soon the Darkness--very good, almost minimal, suspense movie from Robert Fuest and Brian Clemens (and some of the framing and music is very reminiscent of The Avengers). Apparently there was a remake of this last year.

SlowBurn

Ken Russel's The Devils and Werewolf of London.  If you can find a copy of The Devils Grab it up before it disappears again.  It is a great film that has a nasty habit of disappearing.  Great witch finder general type of movie that is based on historical events steeped in faux devil possession and corrupt powers of the church in 17th century France

Memphremagog

A Nightmare On Elm St.(2010)...waste of time.
Masque Of the Red Death(1964)..Vincent Price at his best!
The Cabinet Of Dr.Caligari(1920)..for a movie that is 80 years old, this still has a lot better story than most of the releases these days.
DARK SHADOWS:

David Collins: "Dead people dont just get up and walk around.."

Sarah Collins: "Sometimes they do."

I Was a Teenage Werewolf- a much better film than the title or makeup ever suggests. It's kind of a classic of it's genre of alienated teenagers in 50's horror films. Michael Landon did a good job playing Tony, the violent teenager who can't seem to stop himself from getting into fights. Whit Bissell, as always, is great as the scientist who exploits Tony for his own, rather odd, desire to save humanity by reversing it to it's primitive state and starting all over again! (I guess it doesn't have to make much sense if you're a mad scientist!). Tony gets doped up with Scopolamine (an actual drug that, if overused, can cause confusion, agitation, rambling speech, hallucinations, paranoid behaviors, and delusions) and hypnotized to a primitive state, which causes his werewolf transformation!

Ok, so the science doesn't all add up. If you take out the werewolf component, this would still be a well-written look at teenage violence. Add the wolf fangs and Whit Bissell, you have a really enjoyable 50's horror movie!
Supernatural, perhaps; baloney, perhaps not.
