It's so important to expose ourselves to other cultures...........especially when they go to the trouble of simultaneously exposing themselves to us in red bikinis.
We're all here because we're not all there.

- Phantom of the Opera (1925)

- White Zombie

Caught both of these on TV last Saturday, one after the other. It had been too long since I had seen any monster movie, so to catch these two spontaneously was a real treat.
"For one who has lived but a single lifetime, you are a wise man ...Van Helsing."
"I shall awaken memories of love and crime and death..."

Phantom Stranger

"A Study In Terror" (1965)
                         -John Neville

Plot: Sherlock Holmes vs Jack The Ripper

Phantom's Review: Very entertaining, highly fictionalized mystery thriller. Has a kind of a "Hammer Film"  feel to it . Not as good as 1979's "Murder By Decree" but still very enjoyable.

This evening I watched "Count Yorga, Vampire" 1970 and "The Return of Count Yorga" 1971. I've heard for years about these films but had never seen either of them, so I was happy to finally get the chance to view them. That being said, I was kinda underwhelmed. The cinematography on the first film was really hit or miss. The shaky camera movements in many scenes made them hard to watch. I could forgive the thin plot and goofy overacting, but I hate watching scenes that look like they were filmed by someone with Parkinson's. The second film definitely had better production values, but the plot really didn't make much sense. I still can't figure out who or what the witch/vampire was and what she was doing there. Both films are still worth a look, especially for Quarry's performance as Yorga. I wish I could give them a better rating.
