Abbott and Costello Meet Frankenstein, 1948 -  Everybody knows this one.

Some members still don't like the idea that Universal washed its hands of our beloved monsters with low comedy.  But, I saw this in a real theater with a whole bunch of screaming, empty-popcorn-box- throwing kids when I was little and I have loved it ever since.

Colossal, 2016 - A bi-pedal monster (on the scale of Godzilla) is stomping around in Seoul, Korea.  If that weren't weird enough, it seems to be mimicking the actions of an American woman half-way 'round the world.

Silly premise that raises the question: "What would YOU do in the same situation?"

Not a comedy.  This was played straight with some deeply flawed characters working through individual problems and some of life's personal dead-ends.

A little over-long.  I suspect there was a better/shorter movie lurking in that material.*

Interesting, if you don't mind some of the inevitable inconsistencies.

*Damn, that sounds didactic.  As always, it is just my jerky opinion.  Take it for what little it might be worth.

They must be keeping quiet, then. Seems, to me, like everybody loves it?  :)

Paul, 2011 - Two adult English comic book collecting friends take a motorhome vacation through America to visit famous UFO siting locations.  On their road trip, they pick up an unusual companion.

Stars Simon Pegg and Nick Frost of "Shaun of the Dead".  Lovely adults-behaving-like-juveniles comedy.  Touches on lots of UFO and sci-fi conventions.  Comic collectors should find this a fun film.

This is the sort of humor that concerned moms try to keep out of the hands of their middle schoolers - and favorite uncles can't wait to give to them behind Mom's back.  Fart jokes and references to private body parts abound.

I can't help it, I liked this dopey story - there, I said it.

I remember a couple have said they don't like comedy of any sort with their Classic Monsters - But I don't recall their names.

(It was a long time ago.)

The Abyss, 1989 - Mobile deep sea drilling rig is commandeered by the government to help with rescue/recovery of sunken nuclear submarine crew.  Conflict erupts between civilian and military personnel.  Then, a whole new plot element is introduced.

As I recall, audiences opinions were split on the late-appearing plot twist.

Ambitious James Cameron project that was filmed almost entirely underwater, with the actors doing the majority of the diving themselves.  Although it used early CGI for some effects, it does not seem to have been employed to relieve the actors from performing their own stunts.

I finally gave up waiting for a Blu-Ray edition of this movie and bought a good DVD version.  Glad I did, it looks fine on my 55" screen.

Alright, but not nearly as good as the 3 movies they did with director Edgar Wright.
