Watched 'Emilie', a surprisingly effective psycho-babysitter flick, which stood out from it's peers by the fact that I wasn't praying for the kids to be dispatched as quickly and gruesomely as possible.   Quite hard to watch at times, with a reasonably satisfying if entirely predictable final showdown/ending.

Star Wars: Episode VIII The Last Jedi

So, are they just doing 9 movies with these characters? That was the original intent. Luke would be the only one left for the next movie.

DRACULA (1931) on Blu-ray. Like seeing it for the first time - so beautiful!

I liked this one. The scene with the family pet was very disturbing, indeed. The actress did an incredible job, imo.

Monsters For Sale

The Ruins, 2008 - Two young American couples, vacationing in Mexico, join up with a young German and his Greek friend to explore an "off the beaten track" Mayan ruin that few tourists have ever visited - and locate the Greek's missing brother.  Modern day Mayans at first try to hide the pyramid from them.  Then, they don't want them to leave.

I knew nothing about this movie when I bought it.  I assumed it would be another film about awakening some ancient spirit that objected to having its temple disturbed.  Wrong.  It took an entirely different tack, much to my delight.

Good acting, effects and an interesting setting held my interest - though, this might just as effectively have been done as a 60-minute Outer Limits episode.  We didn't need all the early narrative to gain our sympathy for the characters.  They were likeable enough without it.

Supposedly the last movie was going to be Leia's film but with Carrie Fisher being deceased that isn't likely to come to fruition.  The first film in this series featured Han's sacrifice/death and Last Jedi featured another main character's sacrifice/death.

SCARED STIFF (1945) - A decent  "B" mystery/comedy with some horror trappings (spooky old house with hidden passages). With Jack Haley, fresh from his other Pine/Thomas "B" mystery/comedy "One Body Too Many" (1944).

THE GHOST AND THE GUEST (1943) - PRC mystery/comedy with a screenplay by Morey Amsterdam, so there are some decent jokes in the script. James Dunn stars.
