The Curse of Frankenstein (1957)
I watched this today with my wife.  We enjoyed commenting throughout.  The scene where Cushing pushes the professor through the 2nd story railing to advance his agenda to harvest the professor's brain is outstanding AND ridiculous.  The fall the professor suffers is exactly the type you DO NOT want to induce IF you wish to make use of his brain.  He basically lands square on top of his head.  The damage to the skull, brain and spinal cord would be catastrophic.  When he and his pal, Paul later wrestle over the harvested brain as it sits in a glass jar, Cushing freaks out as if the jar getting smacked against a wall is in any way worse than the blow rendered by a 2nd story swan dive directly on top of the same skull. Good stuff.

Bram Stoker's Dracula.  I really do enjoy this version---miraculously, despite Keanu Reeves.  Frankly, that sounds impossible, but I manage to compartmentalize his parts and enjoy the performances of most of the other actors.  Gary Oldman, Anthony Hopkins and the chap who played Renfield were all enjoyable.  Imagine if a better actor than Reeves played Jonathan Harker.  It would have been a Masterpiece.  JMO.  I liked the rest of it that much.  The score.  The special effects.  When I watch Keanu butcher whatever accent he was attempting, I feel like Hannibal Lecter in Red Dragon when he's at the symphony and one of the musicians is painfully "off".

Back to the Universal's not on DVD.

MURDER IN THE BLUE ROOM (1944) at YouTube

2nd remake of "Secrets of the Blue Room" is inferior, but entertaining enough, if you FF >> through the mediocre musical numbers. Same basic plot as "Secrets", with people going missing from the title room of the, supposedly, haunted estate. Some witty dialog, probably by frequent Billy Wilder collaborator I.A.L. Diamond (his 1st co-screenplay).

Anne Gwynne, Donald Cook and John Litel head the cast, with Ian Wolfe doing the butler thing, again.

This video has the image stretched, but has a much better picture than the other one.

We have all written volumes on Mr. Reeves meager acting chops. What were they thinking? That said, I always felt this film had some of the most stunning visuals of any vampire movie. Btw, Renfield was played by brilliant singer/songwriter, Tom Waits.

I feel the same way about Bram Stokers Dracula. And funnily enough I felt the same way as Hannibal in that symphony scene whilst watching Red Dragon.
