The Girl In Room 2A (1974)

This is Eurohorror directed by a New York Exploitation/Porn director named William Rose. It stars Daniela Giordano (Inquisition) and has a noteworthy small (but important) role by Rosalba Neri (whom I really wish we had seen more of  ;) ;) ;)). It's always a pleasure to see as much of Ms. Neri (aka Sara Bay) as possible. Anywho, this one isn't bad if you're into '70s Explo. It deals with a secret vigilante organization who gets their kicks out of punishing so-called immoral people in medieval fashion... whips, chains, torture, the whole nasty nine yards. The Mondo Macabro DVD is really nice with some cool special features including an interview with Giordano about her experiences being directed by Bava and Naschy. It's no classic, but nice to have if you love '70s Eurohorror or just Exploitation/Horror with a little bite.

Night Of The Cobra Woman (1972)

Early New World Pictures release shot in the Philippines. This picture isn't great but should be of interest to anyone who is into Philippino Horror. It stars Marlene Clark and Joy Bang  :D, and concerns a woman mystically turning into a cobra. It also features ubiquitous Vic Diaz as a broken disfigured hunchback (if it's a Philippino flick.. look for Vic ). Despite mediocrity of quality it became a cult drive-in film which wasn't available for several years. If you saw it back in the day, or just enjoy Philippino Horror, it's worth picking up. The Scorpion Releasing DVD serves well to present the film, and offers interesting interviews with Marlene Clark and Roger Corman, as well as several trailers.

Psychomania (1973) (aka The Death Wheelers)

I like this weird flick. It just wreaks of the early '70s. It's really more like a psychedelic dark fairy tale than a horror movie. George Sanders plays a supernatural Power posing as a butler. Nicky Henson is the leader of a biker gang called "The Living Dead" and sports some badass black leathers (his own). Anne Michelle (Virgin Witch) is one of the wilder gang members. The plot involves Tom Latham (Henson) cursed from birth having been sold by his mother to the Dark Power (Sanders). He eventually is ready to claim his destiny as an invulnerable undead being of great power (shades of Ghost Rider.. without the fire and flash). He succeeds in "crossing over" by commiting suicide and using extreme will to come back as a supernatural destroyer. He also convinces his cycle gang to join him, and the seven begin their crusade of destruction until the undoing of the original pact brings their plans, and existence, to a screeching halt. I've embellished this to sound like a cosmic opus, but it's really just a quaint quirky little horror film with bikers and several '70s tropes. The best thing about the film is the score. John Cameron farted lightning when he concocted this weirdass music with keyboard and synthesizers that sounds like electric guitar from the netherworld. This music is strange, macabre, and freakin' beautiful! Don't expect sound plot and acting, but in it's own unusual way this movie is a classic.

The Severin DVD presents the uncut film well considering the original negative is lost. Extras include some great interviews and the trailer. I had heard that George Sanders was a bit of a dick but everyone interviewed credited him with being very nice during the shoot, and a perfect gentleman. This was Sanders' last film. He committed suicide before it was released.. and didn't come back on a motorcycle (that bit of black humor has been beaten to death).
