The Fishmen And Their Queen (1995)

Strange movie. It claims to be a sequel to Island Of The Fishmen (1979), but is only very loosely so. Island Of The Fishmen is pretty good Eurohorror, but this follow up is a patchwork of scenes from Island... and 2019: After The Fall Of New York, a post apocalyptic Mad Maxesque Sci-Fi flick from the '80s. All 3 were directed by Sergio Martino, so it seems he was slumming a bit when he threw The Fishmen And Their Queen together by using old footage from previous films. This movie is a montage of elements that really don't fit together very well. It isn't written very competently, but I enjoy it for it's quirkiness. Except for some mild language this thing could be rated G. It's really only for completists who are fans of Martino's work.

The Uninvited (1944)

Entertaining haunted house picture with Ray Milland, Gail Russell, and Ruth Hussey. Good acting and interesting story (if a tad muddled about which ghost is which). The special effects are fairly chilling as well. Gail Russell was magnetic, and it's a terrible shame that she drank herself to death at an early age. Ray Milland was very good. Seems funny to see him relatively young since for years I only saw him in movies like The Thing With Two Heads and Frogs. This film is highly recommended. The Criterion DVD is very nice and has some cool special features.

The Vampire And The Ballerina (1960)

Cool classic Eurohorror from Italy with some very atmospheric gothic castle scenes and a whole troupe of beautiful women. It drags a bit in places, but overall it's very enjoyable if you like Eurohorror (and hot girls  ;)). The vampire makeup is entertainingly garish and fun. If this were made a decade later it would be full of nudity and gore, but there is something to be said for the charm and restraint of older Eurohorror (nothing against nudity and gore, mind you  >:D). The Trash Palace DVD presents very nice picture and sound, and is in the original Italian with English subtitles. Eurohorror fans should have a nice copy of this classic in their collection. I first saw it on You Tube, but you never know how long something will be available there.

Creature Feature: 60 Years Of The Gill-Man (2015)

The basics are gone over that we Monsterkids are familiar with, but this documentary goes way beyond that. Millicent Patrick is given her due. There is much discussion of The Creature in pop culture, as well as later monsters who were influenced by Creech, including blatant rips. The most enjoyable part of the doc are the segments covering fandom- top Creature collectors (including pretty good coverage of some jaw dropping collections), and lots of cool convention bits. There are several different short interviews with Ben Chapman and Julie Adams. Some cool footage of Wakulla Springs is there as well (I've been to Silver Springs several times but I have to get to Wakulla!). At 74 minutes this doc packs in LOTS of really enjoyable material for Creature fans. There are also several special features including the Creature bit from The Colgate Comedy Hour, and an interview with the filmmaker. I bought my copy from an eBay seller for just over $20 shipped, and I feel I more than got my money's worth. The lone negative might be that this is a BD-R instead of a pressed disc, but I'm not certain how that will affect the life of a Blu-ray disc. This is highly recommended to any Creature fan, and even to anyone interested in motion picture history. I got chills of Creature loving joy a couple of times during my viewing of it... but then I'm a total Creature geek (probably preachin' to the choir here ).
