My error, it was 2003 when "Mad Max 4" (working title) was supposed to film in Namibia--which gained independence from South Africa in 1990. What caused them to shut down production were flight restrictions during the Iraq War. Then George Miller was going to do it as a CGI-animated film in 2005. Finally, he changed it back to live-action in 2009. It was going to shoot in Australia. Then, the Outback flooded in 2010. When the water receded in 2011, their desert location was now a garden paradise! Thus, the movie to Namibia, again. Miller plans to film "Fury Road," "Furioso," and an untitled sixth "Mad Max" (as yet unscripted, too) back-to-back-to-back, with stars Tom Hardy and Charlize Theron.

I found the link that has Spain listed as one of the locations for a Mad Max movie. Beyond Thunderdome.

Sure enough.. and armed with the name of the district, I found more links out there. Detail, alas, is scanty. I'd love to know more.
Well, you live and learn! Thanks!  :)

You know, if they could have got Gibson to reprise the role, and Australia being too green, they could have simply filmed it in Israel, which parts of have a similar terrain.

Mel Gibson in Israel?
That would add a whole new dimension to "Mad Max."

Mel Gibson is nuts or drunk or both..whatever, I'm over it. Having said that I'm no where near over Mad Max--the original and Road Warrior are easily 2 of my all time favorites! Road Warrior was the 1st movie we ever rented on VHS and I was blown away!

Notice I'm not talking about Thunderdome? Probably because I'm not a really big fan of things that remind me of stepping in dog poop. That movie is awful. I don't care about Tina Turner and midget gladiators--it's just weak! I wan't the anti-hero in a badass car doing anti hero and badass car things.

I've been waiting for this film forever now--if it's not good my head is going to explode. That should be the tagline for this flick--"Fury Road is gonna be awesome so BlackLagoon's head doesn't explode."

I like this. I like it a lot. It could provide some sort of segue to a CREATURE remake. MAX is Warners, but there are ways around that.

It's gonna be tough without Mel..personally I give everyone a few chances at redemption and I think Robert Downey's little thing he did with Mel was very nice but there are still alot of people who have to feel this way before Mel get's embraced again.

When you're a kid or even an adult you think and hope these guys are as awesome off screen as they on screen--but in today's day and age with all the media saturation we know more than ever how human these guys are.

At the end of the day you can never go wrong with idolizing Boris Karloff. An incredible actor who did some of the nicest things anyone has ever heard of.....and also played the awesomest most badass monster of all time  ;)

I wonder if Boris or any of the other Universal monster actors had bad press?

I don't recall any episodes as bad as Gibson's meltdowns.  But then there were no video cameras and cellphone cams to record everything. And Gibson almost seems to bring it on himself.  I'm pretty sure he has some serious mental health issues that need addressed.  I mean besides the alcoholism. . .

The media actually worked in those days to spare the stars bad press.  Lionel Atwill's escapades never made the papers, nor did Bella Lugosi's drug addiction, or Karloff's divorce.   To be honest, I prefer that.  I have no problem watching Gibson playing a Scotish hero, or Swartzanegger playing a powerhouse, any more then I had watching Johnny Depp playing anything but a child molester running a choclate factory, or a sanctomonius blood sucker, killing innocents.  Of course, in the case of the later, I hated the parts, rather than the actor.

Everyone is human, people make mistakes some bigger than others. You have people wanting the head of an actor because he said some horrible things, they were absolutely horrible, horrible enough to make me think the man has a legitimate problem. People point fingers and go on being broken in their own way on a much much  smaller stage.

I hated when that stupid E! show did that "dark side of hollywood" bullcrap that basically made Lugosi look like some degenerate.  Didn't his son clear the air about his addiction by letting us know he had some kind of shrapnel stuck in his body which caused him great pain from fighting in a war...for God's sake the man redefined a character and pretty much created the one we all know and love that has lasted 70 someodd years now.

You spend an hour talking about his addictions and failed relationships? Don't you have anything better to do? Douchebags.

Lugosi was also a prisoner of war, in WW1.  He really did suffer quite a bit.
