When do you let a girl you're dating see your collection?

Collecting! It's what I do!

\I didn't notice Miss Dead's picture until Mord mentioned it. (I'm on dial up because they don't service high speed internet in my neck of the woods yet. Maybe I missed the post before or she edited it since I was last on. I don't remember it but I posted after it. Maybe I just fell out of the Twilight Zone...Anyway...)  I'll comment (if Miss Dead won't kill me...lol.) If I saw you in a library I wouldn't see goth. (Goths don't typically have your sense of style or smile.) I'd notice your smile at first. I might even talk to you. But I wouldn't shut out a person who looked like you as a goth. I tend to notice the spark in the eyes of people. It says a lot about who they are and you look rather lively. My family would probably freak out if I brought a tattooed, pierced up girl with pink hair but that's another story. Lol. And just the disclaimer, I'm not hitting on Miss Dead, just stating an opinion.

Perhaps I shall post a picture of myself since Horror101 and Missdead have. I'm not as, um, exotic looking though as either of those two are. What ya see is what you get....

Im NOT goth ( like at all ), as I've stated before.
I am, however,
eccentric,
rambunctious,
quirky,
old fashioned,
multifaceted,
eclectic,
weird,
crazy .( No. Insane actually. ., among other things. )
&
connoisseur of all things interesting, artsy, morbid, antiquated, macabre or just plain awesome !!!

and looking " lively"...  you have no idea !! Thats one of the biggest understatements of the century !!!!  lol lol

btw.. in MEMBERS ONLY forum, theres an entire thread with members pics, and I already have pics there,
I only put one here, to show you a side by side comparison of how much i am NOT goth.. lol . but for whatever reason, you still think I am.. lol
if you go look at all my regular pics on that thread,
combine them with the pics of my house,
combined with the subject matter of all my tattoos,
you would know me a whole lot better.  and possibly " get me" .
jus sayin'

Oh.. and definitely far from " exotic" .. that just made me laugh. Im like sooo kinda boring . I like comic books & monsters .* pushes up my glasses. . lol

I only clarified because I wasn't sure, Scatter. It's like the guy who said I care too much about what other people think and it may only seem that way because I'm discussing these issues in this thread. This is the first time I've ever discussed anything like this in public with fellow collectors. :D

I am very much happy with who I am by the way. It just seems other people don't take me seriously. Lol. Being alone is okay but it would be nice to have someone around just to poke you every now and then and make sure you're still alive. Lol.

Thank you for the kind words, Charp. I've been told I look creepy a few times but never a Prince Charming. Lol.  What would you like to know about my collection? I think I've covered it earlier. The Disney collection is mostly PVCs from all over the world. I must have 5,000+ of them but remember a lot of them come in box sets of 10 figures so they add up fast. I used to trade with people from all over the world when I was in high school. My Christmas collection really began in 1998. I walked into a CVS and saw a poster advertising the Rudolph beanies and this was the first time a Christmas special was ever merchandised like that and it was my favorite as a kid. I used to run Rudolph marathons like people do Star Wars and stuff. So from there I just kept adding to it every year on most figural items based on Christmas movies and films. I have cabinets worth of statues, snow globes and things. I collect non film things too. I have a growing collection of exotic nutcrackers. That began when I was at a CVS or a Rite Aid after Christmas and they were going to throw out like 8 of them if no one bought them at 90% off. I  saw Toy Story 2, I felt sorry for them so I picked them up. Lol. Now every year I add a few more to the collection. I think I have close to 80. The reason everything is boxed up at the moment is we're fixing up the house and I really want a nice display room before I get it out again.

The thing that bugs me most is when people assume I'm a Michael Jackson type because of what I collect.

LOL. If I lived near you and your daughter had friends I fit with I'd welcome your playing matchmaker. :D (I'll be 32 in September) The funny thing is whenever I matchmaker anyone they ALWAYS get married even when I don't intend it that way. But just like Merlin I don't have this power over my own destiny as I seem to with the destiny of others.

Hepcat, I wasn't lumping libertarians, socialists, and anarchists as the same thing. I say they're all different ideologies from me. I used to call myself a libertarian until I met so many fringe ones who are okay with child molesters and stuff like that. The way I see that group is it's a big tent ranging from extreme right to extreme left. I hope no one finds this clarification as being political, I'm just stating how I understand it to be and what I meant. I'm a conservative because conservatism is allowing the individual to fulfil their potential to the fullest. More people prosper through this concept than any other.

Mord - You're talking corporatism. True capitalism has a morality behind the business dealings. This is found in the writings of the Founding Fathers. It is only when this standard of decency is abandoned in the name of greed that problems occur.

Mord

I agree, but it happens soooo often (greed, that is). Hey, you don't have to preach the merits of capitalism, my family had to flee a communist dictatorship with my brother and me. I just wish that the free market system wasn't so fully corrupted by greed.

Wizard_Of_Ed

Well I wasn't saying you were a goth, Miss Dead. :P I would get most of what you just listed by seeing you straight off except being old fashioned. The tattoos and piercings would have been a red hering for me. (I personally finf facial piercings destracting from the natural face of a person like if you're looking at a painting and there's a tear in it interupting it. I'm not knocking it, it's just not for me. I've never seen anyone I thought looked enhanced with a stuff in their face but I know I must be in a minority. (I've been told by people I need to wind up with someone like that because those who mess with me would think twice if my wife looked dangerous. lol. Most successful creators had a wife who looked out for them from L. Frank Baum to Jack Kirby. Not that I look for that, it's just a pattern I've noticed.)  But you just having tattoos and the facial piercings would be considered exotic in my family tree. It would have been like "Guess Who's Coming To Diner". lol.

I'll check out your threads. I only say the section to introduce yourself and didn't know there was any beyond that. I actually thought the Members Only section was for the Mods so I never went there. I'll see if I can find your threads though. I'm curious now from what you said.

Wizard_Of_Ed

Mord - When greed drives it I call it corporatism. The Free Market is flawed as anything man creates but there isn't a better system for prosperity of man in use anywhere on the planet. Issue 2 of my current project actually covers Capitalism and the Free Market and all of this if that interests you.

Missdead13, Oh how you underestimate yourself.  Monsters and Comic Books are the farthest thing from boring...   They're not exotic, but they aren't boring.  ;)

You really need to move to California, because about 1/4 of that state collects what you do.  And those collectors and enthusiasts definitely include very conservative people.

And, while I ain't no moderator, I'm just saying...  There's a little too much "politicalness" creeping into this thread, so let's cut it before everybody gets the pitchforks.   :)

Mord

Actually Miss Dead is lovelier and more unique than most women on the big screen. I would love to see her in a horror movie. Unfortunately, she would probably get killed off in some brutal, Hostel/Saw-like way.

After two divorces and having to sell off most everything I own (twice), I could care less about someone else trying to change who I am! It's easier being single.

I dont understand this thread? Why should anyone be so concerned with how they are viewed by others? Do what makes you happy, why hide it? If you find someone that compliments what you are , then great! If not, then you obviously wont be happy anyway..... speaking from experience here. And as far as worrying about the looks of a girl to bring home to your parents!?? Seriously? If you found a person that you liked and they made you happy you wouldnt consider them an option simply due to what your parents views of them were?? Maybe thats why you have trouble, worrying about everyone elses hang ups shouldnt be your concern IMO..
Mirabile dictu,don't you agree?

Wizard_Of_Ed

Aura - I was just explaining myself when asked. I wasn't intending to get near the edge. That seems to be something I excel at. But everyone I've ever met from California hasn't been of the conservative variety. I'm pretty unique for where I live too. I've been thinking of heading down south when I make my big move. Of course there's lots of creepy crawlies down there that we don't have in PA but out west you have wild fires and border violence.

I found Miss Dead's Threads. She does look like an updated Lilly Munster. Nice collection too.

I wasn't worried about the looks of a girl to bring home. I was trying to be funny about how my family would react. I must come off totally differently than I think I am. I don't care what other people think of me. I started this thread more about tact than caring about the opinions of others.

I agree with you .. Also, parents want there children to be happy and if a person makes their child happy, why would looks matter? Looks are subjective anyway.

Wizard_Of_Ed

Yep. Looks are subjective. And I find it weird how people fall into line on that stuff. For hundreds of years women wanted to be fat because it meant they were rich. In the 19teens there was a devive to flatten their chest so they wanted to be like that. Then curvy was in style. Since the 60's it's been to be a twig. And it's not just women's beauty standards but it's one of the most obvious. The American Breakfast was entirely created in the 1930's and 40's by farm lobbies. Before that time people ate burnt toast and that was it. The sausage, egg, etc. happened during the Great Depression to help the farmer. OJ happened when refrigeration discovered during WWII allowed for it to be sold year round. Before that Cereal and Soda began as medicines that found their way into recreational use. It's just interesting how much stuff we accept as always having been are forced down our throats.

The best pin up art is from the 1940's by the way. I love the paintings back then when the women glowed.
