When do you let a girl you're dating see your collection?

Okay, here's who the Wizard of Ed is...This was taken of me at North Pole, NY and I use this Reindeer photo as my "official" press photo. It has my essence even though some say it's not a good picture of me.

I'll post a few more as soon as I see if this worked.

Ed you look like a perfectly normal guy to me. I got to thinking how big is your collections? Are we talking a few shelves or a whole room or is your whole house riddled with the stuff? me my place has stuff every where so it's very obvious. but if your collection is on the small scale you might down play it a little. As a matter of fact I might just let the girl kinda discover it her self. invite her over and after she looks around she might say something like " you like monster stuff huh?" And then you casually say ya i kinda collect it. Any way it was just a thought?lol!

No Comment. lol....

I have a rather large collection but it rarely comes up. They can't get past the creative field stuff. I' had one girl in college even say "This is not a career. It's a hobby." and she hadn't seen anything I had done and this was when my first book was getting ready for print with a publisher. Even before they find out what I do I sometimes lose them. I think I look "too normal" because I don't think I ever get the attention of many girls.

As for my collection, it fills up a room. I have it boxed up at the moment because of fixing up the house but I have seen larger on this site. My collection is mostly Christmas stuff, then Disney stuff and I have a Monster shelf.  I always intend to have a collection room, married or not, with some spill over as needed.

I didn't have any luck with women, until after I stopped "needing" to have a relationship.  I had the good fortune to meet a girl even needier for a relationship then I was, and realized being alone was not that bad.  I met the woman I married not long after that, and we've married for 25 years.
What ever happened to my Transylvania Twist?

BINGO!! Nothing's more attractive than desperation. Not. Until you're happy all by yourself you're not fit to be in a relationship. I enjoyed being single, I enjoyed dating, I enjoy being married.....because I didn't NEED to be in any of those situations to be happy. You gotta be happy with just you before anyone else can be happy with just you. Until then, you're not formed enough as a person to be in a relationship. JMO

I understand how you feel I'm a artist trying to pursue the field of comics and have had a girl say the very hing to me. So i know how you feel there. As far as too normal that could be but i would say it's more of a times not right kinda thing. You might ask yourself are you accesable to women? Are you going places were you might meet them? Also if your doing comics you might think of the possibility that there is a hot young fan crushing on you. Don't give up my man there is a women out there for ya. next time you meet a girl your interested follow 3 simply rules-be funny, act care free and confident and last but not least listen and act interested. See if that gets you any improvement. Also wait on telling her about the collection till things are more serious. If she ask by all means tell her but i would still down play it a little.

Brother, there are tremendous advantages to being single. Take advantage of them while you can. The freedom ends soon enough, but fortunately it'll be replaced with the kind of companionship that will make you forget how much you loved your freedom. At every stage there are things to cherish. It's a sin not to enjoy each stage as fully as possible.

I never said I "needed" a relationship or that I'm even needy or desperate. I just was asking if maybe my interests are why women avoid me. I'm pretty with how I am. It just seems other people aren't. lol. I do sometimes wish I had the companionship aspect of a relationship though. But I don't dwell on this stuff all the time. I was just curious if there is a wrong way and a right way to introduce a women into a non conventional world.

I don't know if getting involved with a fangirl would ever be a good idea. Those 3 rules are what I do. I get told I remind people of John Candy or Glenn Beck l(Not politically but how he can go from serious to a silly topic at the drop of a hat and be an expert in both) ike that.

What Scatter said. One's happiness doesn't depend on anyone, or anything. There's a lady in my life, but I "need" her because I love her, not visa-versa.

I've never met anyone, anyone worthwhile anyway, when I was looking. Chance is the best matchmaker in my experience.  And trust me, there's worse things than being alone should it come to that.

I wasn't referring to you Ed. I was referring to HH's comment about being involved with a desperate woman and how awful that can be (in either sex).

Wizard- You are such a handsome Prince Charming looking fellow!  I'm positive that you will find that special Princess very soon  :)
Now then......I can't stop thinking about this Christmas & Disney collection of yours!! I was even considering dressing up like Bugs Bunny in Hillbilly Hoedown and coming up there to see if I could get you to unbox your collectibles (no, that's not a euphemism-teehee). There are plenty of us folks around that appreciate the art and beauty of little ornaments and figurines (Aggghhh- now EVERYTHING sounds weird) I only pray that everyone knows that I am just a regular person that enjoys collectibles  :)
You really do seem like a very interesting and creative young man. If you lived near me, I would totally play matchmaker! Believe it or not, my 31 year old daughter has many friends that say the same things about how hard it is nowadays to meet someone cool.

Quote from: Wizard_Of_Ed on June 27, 2012, 03:34:17 AMHepcat - I'm incompatible with flaming liberal women whether they be democrats or libertarians. They often have preconceived notions of what conservatism and free market capitalism is and want anarchy or a form of socialism.

You do realize that libertarians are all about free market capitalism, do you not? And did you truly intend to lump anarchy and socialism so closely together in your sentence when they're inconsistent systems? The anarchy would go pretty well hand-in-hand with the free market capitalism that libertarians espouse.
