In these parts we had a lunchtime "kids" show featuring the local talents of "Uncle Bob" and his ventriloquist dummy friend "Archie Wood" (yep, no joke material there....). As you'd expect from a local lunch-time kids show, the production values were nil, but they still managed to draw a huge audience, mainly because there were only two TV channels at the time and one of them showed news at noon. As a result, i spent years watching "Archie" and his friends (an assortment of sock puppets that included a rat-like charatcter called "Marvin Mouse"). I fully attribute my current twisted state to this early and frequent exposure to the art of ventriloquism.

Uncle Bob and Archie-when, oh when will you call me on "birthday phone" Archie???

Marvin the Mouse-his eyes never really looked directly at you as he lip-synched to "The Thing" by Phil Harris. Now I'll never get rid of the "bump-ba-bump" .
Supernatural, perhaps; baloney, perhaps not.

I used to love this show when I was a kid.

Shrimpenstein (1967) Pt. 1
What ever happened to my Transylvania Twist?

Wicked Lester- I was wondering when you were gonna pull out the Big Kahuna of ventriloquist figures (I'm afraid to call him a dummy)!! I love that Goosebumps story!
Somewhere in my garage, I have a vice-like pencil cup of that guy's head!

Back when Paul Winchell hosted some sort of kids game show (was thinking Gong show...? not) I wrote to him and received an autographed photo-card back. He had just been given an Doctorate for his Artificial Heart work

Wow, and oh my goodness. Thanks for this link, Haunted Hearse. That is the front half of the "secondary" Addams Family Iron Maiden prop (the "front loader" as I call it), that the mad doctor guy in the Shrimpenstein video (above) jumps out of, used on the original Addams TV series from time to time, as well as the HALLOWEEN WITH THE ADDAMS FAMILY reunion movie. it was also used in the HORROR HALL OF FAME TV show starring Vincent Price- the one with John Astin, John Carradine, and Frank Gorshin(I think) co-starring.

It was also used in 1966's film CHAMBER OF HORRORS, in the wax museum scenes. Here is a shot from CHAMBER OF HORRORS...

It is sitting out in my garage waiting some restoration as we speak! Appears SHRIMPENSTEIN is only using the front doors of the Maiden here, attached to a hole in the wall, but that's her for sure. It came out of 20th Century Props in LA a couple of years back.

Did they use it for the whole run of SHRIMPENSTEIN, does anybody know?

You know, I'm of two minds on this subject. My folks introduced me to the worlds of Laurel and Hardy, the Marx Bros, WC Fields, and Charlie McCarthy when I was quite young. I loved to see Edgar Bergen when I could on Mike Douglas, Tom Snyder's Tomorrow Show, Laugh-In, etc. My folks got me my own Charlie doll when I was eight or nine years old. He and his pals don't creep me out, but the dummies on the Twilight Zone and in films like Magic, etc do creep me out.

I still have Charlie to this day. He sits quietly in a closet in my studio. I just hope he stays that way...

amazing amazingly awesome picture... LOVEEEE IT !!!

Monster Bob- The fact that you have that iron maiden "out in the garage" is beyond amazing.
It is like meeting Dr Jones and casually saying "Oh the Ark, I think that's in my rec room. My wife keeps yarn in it..."

Here are pics of a couple of my "partners in crime"

I think Lester is too classy of a doll to be mine. From what I remember mine is wearing some sorta weird ruffled outfit that's tanish.
