My first Styrene Work in 30 years!
« on: July 23, 2008, 05:18:12 PM »
Folks-

The first one of these guys I've done in ages! I'm no Jim Bertges, but he DOES look better in person; the flash is unforgiving!

Best,
-Craig W.

Beautiful work, Craig. Great detail on the bricks and everything looks crisp and sharp, just like Superman should! Nice fleshtones too, those are usually the hardest thing to get. Let's see some more.
You knew the job was dangerous when you took it, Fred.

Too much work! Too much work!

Seriously folks, thanks - coming from guys who know their beans, it's nice to hear kind words. I wasn't sure if I wanted to show it...

Styles have changed a lot over the years. I pondered the "look" to go for; I considered going for a more modern, realistic finish.

But since it's from '64, I decided to go for the, "what if a relatively talented teenager had done it then?" feel.

Best,
-Craig W.

P.S.- If any UMAer buys the thing, I'll try to sweeten the bonus pot a bit...

AHHHHHH!

THERE'S the Man of Tomorrow!
It's nice to see his bright red, yellow and blue.

See everyone?  There's hope.  Superman is here.

Great job Craig.  I can picture the work area now....and the unforgettable smell of Testors paint...

Thanks, Prof.

I now see the George Reeve-iness of the piece, that folks rumor was the inspiration...

Used to have one of those kits, back in the '60s. I'm sure it never looked that good, though.

I really need to restore mine -- it's in pieces in the box.  Needs a serious re-painting....

Nice Job! A lot of work but worth it in the end. I can tell it is an original Aurora because you had to paint the S on his chest. Aurora molded it into the chest piece and later on for the re-releases like Comic Scenes and others that got re -issued later from Monogram the S was a sticker. Kinda makes me want to dig out my old Superman model from the attic but no room. Mine needs an updated paint job also.

Mike S., that's kind of you to say.

Mike G., wow - thanks!

Terry & Steve - yep, a fresh coat a' paint goes a long way towards making The Krypton Kid live.
