Old school Horror Scope
« on: December 05, 2007, 11:10:43 PM »

Greetings all...I'm testing the water here at the new site with my first post by sending this pic of my original Famous Monsters Horror Scope [not the repro] given to me by a good friend back in the late 80's -early 90's. He said he found it at a local [Long Island] nostalgia shop for not a lot of money. [ he couldn't remember how much] That's the box lid and additional movies along side. One of my all time favorite toys...   CHEERS!,

That's a great toy!  And "not for a lot of money" is the best price.  You are one lucky collector!  I'm far from being a diehard toy afficianado, but this one really makes me salivate.

Thanks a lot! My jaw almost hit the floor when i got it...at this point i was beginning to think it was one of those toys only rumored to exist. Like the Famous Monsters Zacherley mask [of which my avatar is the bastardized Don Post 1977 Frankenstein /Zacherley version. By doing this combo, they didn't need to license either likeness!] I get the impression that my childhood buddy who gave it to me had NO idea what he had found! Glad you enjoyed seeing it,

I always thought that was the Zach mask until I saw a picture of the actual Zach mask.

Such a great toy that I could no longer wait on the chance of owning an original, so I went ahead and bought the Samjo reproduction. Before you start throwing rocks, realize that I fully understand that the repro (like any repro) can't begin to compare to the original. But then again, neither can the price! It suits my needs until luck or a winning lottery ticket comes my way.

I'd settle for a repro, too.  Is Samjo still doing all those repro items?  It's been a while since I saw any listings.  Do you have any contact info for 'em?

I remember seeing that in a BW toy catalog in the pre ebay days, I think it was Toy Scouts who had it. Always wanted to play with it.

Hi Andy. Not sure. Every once in a while he'll show up on eBay with his various repro items. Not as regular as he used to though. I'm not sure if he's still making the Horror Scope. His last few listings were for Big Frankie boxes (I think) and Aurora monster paint sets. He's in NY. Unfortunately, I don't have any contact info on him. You could do a member search at eBay for Samjo123. That's his ID.

Just searched myself. It appears as if he hasn't done much lately. Hmmm. I thought he was in NY, but I guess it's NJ. Let me know Andy if you establish contact with him.
