What!!! How long have these guys been around? I don't think The Stones even have 50 albums.

Mike, ever hear of bootlegs?  ::)

Oh, those! I never considered those as real albums. Never cared for 98% of live albums, anyway.

You know, I've got over a hundred and twenty Jethro Tull boots. I tried going through them to downsize, and found I just couldn't part with them for various reasons. Case in point: the 1972 Essen, Germany Tull show. The sound quality is a B at best, and I was about to chuck it when it came to their song "A New Day Yesterday". Martin Barre just *wails* on this tune. That is followed up by his guitar solo, which clocks in at over nine minutes. It is one of the most amazing solos I've ever heard him play. And if that bootlegger wasn't there to record it it would have been lost to history. I don't believe in selling boots, but am all for trading them. So many great moments that happen sometimes by chance have been preserved by these guys.

Ian Anderson was asked why he didn't film more of Tull's shows. He admitted that the band isn't always at their best, and chances are that's the night when you've hired the film crew, made the arrangements. etc. So maybe that's why they doctor up so many "live" official releases. I really don't care for Tull's official live album Bursting Out. When you compare it to some of the bootlegs there's no comparison.

That's one I never bought. Not sure I've even heard it?

Some of the reasons I didn't care for it, was they took the tapes back into the studio and cleaned them up and added parts to it, thus it's not really a live album per se. Part of the charm of a Tull show is Ian Anderson's stage banter, and he gets censored on this. There's no Martin Barre guitar solo, which was one of the highlights of any Tull show. It just doesn't "feel" live to me, as it's too polished. There's so many boots which are better representations of their live shows.

Big fan of space rock here as well.  Magma was one of the better ones.  Also loved Hawkwind and of course early Pink Floyd.

About 35 of my Porcupine Tree CD's are actual releases . The rest are live shows and studio outtakes.
These guy's are professional Musicians their live music is as good or better than  their studio efforts !!!

That's the way some of Crimson's music was created: they would do an improvisation on stage, record it, and then it would be released on one of their albums as a studio track, even though it is actually a live performance. They would learn how to perform it and it would become part of heir set list. Usually bands do it the other way around. *That's* talent!!

I love Magma. Being a language nerd and all I loved that they constructed their own language. There were a few bands from that scene I love. Eros is one on the groups that stuck out to me.

Zachareed

Sorry, Eros is the album I loved from them. Dun was the band haha.

I remember Eloy.  Good band.  Haven't listened to them in years though (since the days of vinyl).  Have you had a chance to see any space rock live?  Got a chance to see and hear Nik Turner do a live version of D-Rider that was awesome about fifteen years ago.
