Halloween Jeff

I don't think I'm being crabby and grouchy.....

And I keep the Halloween spirit alive all year....and keep the bodies well hidden....

And my 33rd anniversary is October 31st!

Just a Halloween g uy in a normal world...

Not by half, compared to Barlow. ::)
But then, I don't think Halloween has been diminished by how it has changed since I was a kid 45-50 years ago. Its just different (I would have killed to have access to something like a Spirit Halloween store back then!)
And that was kind of the vibe I was getting from your post-Barlow comment.

And a big Anniversary Congratulations.  Well done!  All the more reason to celebrate. 8)

I constantly learn new things by reading these boards.

The only thing I really care about in regards to Halloween is that it is still accessible to kids.  As long as kids can still dress up, trick or treat, and have fun, I am okay with the rest of it.  But the focus needs to be on the kids and making the night/time of year memorable for them.  That's why we decorate the yard and dress up to hand out candy -- to make the night something they won't ever forget... just like we will never forget all of our Halloweens.  If you create a special night for the Treaters who come to your door, you ensure that Halloween will continue for many years to come.

Right On, Aura of Foreboding!

That is and always should be the focus.

I agree! And that's why I don't think over-the-top gory decorations/costumes are a good thing on Halloween.

We put a lot of startling props in our yard, but no blood or gore. We have figures that say things to people as they walk past them and strobes & fog. We also have screaming props with sensors, and we have a movie playing in the upstairs window (on a big white bedsheet screen) that draws their attention upward while they're walking down the sidewalk and up to our stairs. It's all fun and quick! No dilly dallying. The biggest chaos of the night is usually when kids are yelling "I like your decorations!", and we're trying to hand out the candy bags and answer everyone. But I love it!!
And around 10:00 pm.....we start bring the large props in and it usually takes a couple hours of walking back & forth to the garage- and we make it all disappear by morning. And on Nov. 1st....our bones are achy. But it's cool :)

I agree Hep-sterrifying little kids as NOT part of the halloween experience, but giving them a 'fun/creepy place to visit is. I'm very proud to be known as the "Halloween house" on my street!
Supernatural, perhaps; baloney, perhaps not.
