True Blood's Mariana Klaveno (Lorena on the show) may play Lily Munster.

QuoteJust a day after it was reported that Jerry O'Connell has been cast to play Herman Munster in NBC's Mockingbird Lane, reports suggest that True Blood actress Mariana Klaveno could play Lily Munster, but only if ABC allows it.

TV Guide reports that Klaveno could only join NBC's The Munsters reboot if ABC releases her from her obligations to ABC Studios' Devious Maids, a new series created by Desperate Housewives' Marc Cherry. At first, it looked like there would be no problem with Klaveno leaving the show, especially after ABC passed on the pilot. However, TV Guide reports that Lifetime stepped in, showing interest in the series and now Cherry has to decide if Klaveno's character will stay on the show.

Deadline makes it sound as if there is little to no chance of NBC getting Klaveno, even though ABC Studios is cutting Devious Maids' budget for the transition to cable. It turns out that even though Klaveno only has a few lines in the show's pilot, she is actually listed as a lead player and ABC Studios has no desire to lower her role to a recurring one, which would also allow her to work on Mockingbird Lane. NBC was using this as a bargaining chip, but it looks like they've lost out on that. Deadline suggests that if NBC really wants her, NBC Entertainment chairman Bob Greenblatt will have to call Cherry himself.

The 32-year-old Klaveno is known for her roles on Hawaii Five-0 and Dexter, but her role on True Blood as Lorena Krasiki is what impressed NBC and ABC. If she somehow magically gets to star in Mockingbird Lane, she would join Eddie Izzard, Mason Cook and O'Connell.

The series is supposed to be a darker version of The Munsters, developed by Brian Fuller. Bryan Singer is directing the pilot.

They're obviously trying to cach in on the big current Zombie craze. Herman is described as "essentially a decomposing zombie needing a new heart" instead of an undestroyable MONSTER. If it's on TV I'll give it a try but it only gets one shot. I don't like the concept.

I'm surprised O'Connell isn't insisting that Rebecca Romjin play Lily.

Yup, Michael Sarazin's Adam was originally "perfect," then started to decay. A friend of mine recently picked it up on DVD. He hadn't watched it since NBC first broadcast it!

OConnell has managed to star in three losing series.  Maybe this will be his fourth.

I will certainly give the show a chance but don't expect it to live up to the classic show.

Looks like Lily is actually going to be played by Portia De Rossi (Lindsay on Arrested Development).

QuotePer Deadline, "Portia de Rossi, known for her platinum blonde locks, is taking on one of TV's best known brunettes — Lily Munster. The Arrested Development and Better Off Ted alumna is set to play the female lead in NBC's Munsters reboot Mockingbird Lane. Mariana Klaveno had previously been cast as Lily Munster but the deal was contingent on her being released from ABC's pilot Devious Maids, where she was a regular. However, Devious Maids producer ABC Studios did not release Klaveno or agree to make her a recurring on the project"

She's a pretty funny woman but we'll see.....

Hot off the press: I read today in Scary Monsters #83 (in Scare-News) that NBC has cancelled the Munsters pilot.

Isn't 3-month-old news great?

I saw a leaked picture of Charity as Marilyn.  She looks like Marilyn to me (seriously).  The interior of the house looks well designed too.  I plan on giving it a chance.
