I have to put Invaders From Mars on here. I had only seen bits and pieces of it up until I picked it up not long ago and watched it. I know it gets a lot of credit sometimes for some reason, but frankly, it was bad even by the cheesy B sci fi movie standards! The aliens were stupid looking and the ending made me want to shoot myself. I had heard a lot about it in the past, but I have to say I was sorely disappointed in it!

Original Invaders From Mars or the remake? I haven't seen the original but I have seen the remake. It was pretty dumb.

The original... I actually didn't even know they did a remake of it. I just look up still from the remake, at least the aliens in it look mildly more interesting that they did in the original. After having seen the original I can't help but wonder why they felt it necessary to make a remake of it. It's one of those films where it was kinda broken from the beginning, so why try and fix it or make it better? Just make a new alien invader film.

The 1953 original is a classic. You'll find yourself in the minority on this one,but there's nothing wrong with that.

I would hope the original is better than the remake. Then again that's usually how it goes. I can't think of a single remake that tops the original film. I'd like to see the original Invaders From Mars. It's gotta be better than the remake. I usually like cheesy 80s movies but the Invaders remake was too dumb even for me.

I had heard the original was a classic. And I usually LOVE classic 50's era sci-fi films. But this one just sucked haha! I also love twist endings but this one's "twist" just made me cringe. It's the ultimate cliche' surprise ending done really poorly. The alines were goofy looking at weren't the least bit threatening both in their mannerisms or their plot. I was like a cheap knock off of Invasion of the Body Snatchers. To me, Day The Earth Stood Still is worthy of being called a classic. The original Kong was a classic (although I was damn impressed by Jackson's remake, one of the few that I thought lived up to the original... didn't surpass it by any means, but at least lived up and payed good tribute to it). The Blob is a classic. Invaders From Mars? I can't bring myself to put it in the classic category. At least for me anyway...

FACTO2

Well, the original was meant to scare kids.  It prayed on one of the deepest childhood fears... that your parents would turn into monsters.  The scene where the father slaps the son is pretty powerful, especially if you're a kid.  I'm fairly sure that the movie also fit into the McCarthyism of the time... the fear of communists and no longer being able to trust the people you thought you could trust.  Anyway, in my mind, that's what makes it a classic (like Invasion of the Body Snatchers).  But, the remake was lame.

I can understand that, but just because they wanted to make a film that worked as a commentary on society doesn't mean it has to suck, I go back to Day the Earth Stood Still, which I still think is one of the greatest science fiction films ever made, that whole thing was a social commentary and that was a great film. No need for crappy aliens running around in green pajamas and a goofy squid head in a fish bowl and then some bizarre lame attempt at a surprise end. The film was actually pretty good I thought up until the appearance of the actual aliens. The stuff with the parents and the police and the whole who do you trust thing was really well done, but as soon as it got to the climax they blew it and made then whole thing just silly. I think thats what bothers me so much about it, it had the potential to be a really great film, but the whole finale was treated so silly that it looses the impact that it should have had. Like I say, at least for me. I know a lot of people like this film, I had heard about it for a long time from a lot of folks which is why I picked it up and watched it. It just didn't work for me.

FACTO2

It's a little thing called low budget.  Not every film that came out back then could be up to the standards of The Day The Earth Stood Still or Forbidden Planet or Them.  They did the best they could with what they had to work with.  And I think, for what they had to work with, they did pretty well.  Compare Invaders from Mars to The Brain Eaters.  IFM comes across as Citizen Kane.  You just have to accept that the special effects aren't going to be as good as the big budget scyfi of time.  In other words, you either like the B-Movies of that time period, or you don't.

As for the ending...  The kid wakes up thinking he's just had a nightmare.  And then it all starts over again.  Sound familiar?  It should, it's been the premise for the Final Destination franchise.  Only IFM did it first.

And by the way, I love the squid head in the fish bowl.  That is an iconic scifi image.  At one time I had the Lunar kit of that (I think it was Lunar).  Sold it.  Wish I had it back.   :(

I hate zombie movies.
What?  :-[

I mean, I can understand hating all the incredible craptastic zombie movies made in the last couple of decades, but what about the original Night of the Living Dead? The original Dawn of the Dead? The aquatic Nazi zombies of Shockwaves? Say it ain't so!

I don't think you can make it as black and white as "you either love B sci-fi movies or you don't". I love a lot of B sci-fi movies, this one I just happen to not enjoy. I didn't mean to offend, I thought this was an area to share opinions on movies. I'll agree there were a lot worse sci-fi films of the era, but this one just doesn't sit well with me. I get the whole low budget thing, I work in the film and video industry, I know how that goes. It doesn't mean your designs have to be goofy. As for the ending, I hate all the Final Destination films too haha! I just hate "Oh man! It was all just a dream!" endings. Doesn't matter how good the film is. They use this twist in a lot of movies and it always bothers me.

As for zombie movies... I agree! Theres been a lot of crap ones lately (except for Zombieland... you gotta love Zombieland) but some of the early originals are great! The first time I saw the original Night of the Living Dead I was about 7 and it scared the hell out of me! It still creeps me out to this day! I don't know if any of you have watched AMC's Walking Dead series but I have been pretty impressed so far. I think it's deffinately a cut above a lot of the zombie films that have come out recently.

As an avid Zombie film such as my self I have to say that as the opening credits of Zombieland started
I was glued to my seat and thinking I'm in for a heck of a good ride
but by movies end I felt cheated and if someone was to note the actual screen time of zombie action or zombie
appearences you would find that the love story and twinkie hunting took presidence .
maybe I expected too much from a  huge budget and great cast members!
LOVE STORY+TWINKIE HUNT + A DASH OF ZOMBIES + CRAPPY HUMOR = NOT A ZOMBIE MOVIE!!!!
Zombies of Mass Destruction was even better than that or Dance of the Dead or Zombie Strippers for that matter!!! 8)
