Here's a pic of the original `60s Green Hornet and Kato with Super Bubble gum.  Super Bubble was another I used to pick up after school.

Bazooka and Dubble Bubble completely dominated the penny gum market in my neck of the woods when I was a kid. Black Cat licorice bubble gum could occasionally be found but I can't recall seeing Super Bubble or any other brands.

Here are some pics of the classic Super Bubble:

And evidently it's now available in Apple and Grape flavours as well as Original:

Super Bubble was only available in original flavor when I was a kid, but I would have gladly traded it for licorice flavored gum.  I never ever saw Black Cat growing up.   MY CHILDHOOD WAS ROBBED.   >:(

Black Cat Bubble Gum was not only delicious but it was also simply the best for blowing bubbles. It beat hell out of Dubble Dubble or Bazooka when it came to the size you could manage for a penny or two.

Pal was another determined competitor for kids' pennies in certain geographic markets during the baby boom years:

Does anyone remember buying Pal?

I don't remember even seeing Pal as a kid, but then I usually purchased Dubble Bubble 9 out of 10 times.  Bazooka being the other usual competitor for my money.

Stupid spell checker on my computer keeps changing Dubble into double.

Here are some pictures that I lifted off the net of the Monster Tatoos featuring artwork by the legendary Jack Davis that Topps released in 1962:

Here are pictures of some of Jack's original drawings before they were coloured in for printing:

More evidence that bubble gum and tattoos constituted a marriage made in heaven!

A new book chronicling the story of Bazooka Joe has hit the stands!

It should provide bubble gum fans with wads of interesting reading. Get it now man!

Book would be worth it for re-reading the comics alone.  Be great seeing all the cool mail order items, as well as the history.  Thanks for the heads up, Hep.

When I was going door-to-door in the early sixties, little packs of Chiclets in any of about a half a dozen flavours were a common Halloween treat:

I didn't much like Chiclets at the time because they weren't good for blowing bubbles. These days though I'm happy to get any kind of gum sweetened with good honest sugar as opposed to some sort of chemical carcinogen.

Topps was not the only company to pair bubble gum with tattoos. Fleer did so a number of times as well including these nifty Justice League of America themed tattoos:

And since Halloween is just a week away, here are a few more pictures lifted off the net of the most monsterrific bubble gum tattoo set of them all, the Topps Monster Tatoo set featuring artwork by the legendary Jack Davis that Topps released in 1962:
