this is what I love about 60's/70's Star Trek toys and tie ins. Back then, the studio didn't care very much if the art and execution had any screen accuracy and you get a lot of wacky interpretations of the Enterprise and the crew.

That Enterprise illustration is similar to the one used on my early 70's Hasbro Star Trek game. Nice to know it has a history.

That wasn't the initial explanation, was it?

No they never really came out and said why the Kligons changed or exactly where V'ger was repaired. The stuff from the novels is not accepted as cannon by Paramount. Heck I heard that they don't even consider the animated series cannon even though it was written, produced and starred most everybody from the original series! As for thr Klingons, I think that explanation from Shatner's books would not work now anyways as Klingons shown in the Enterprise series looked the same as the movie era Klingons even though that series takes place about 150 years before TOS.

Nothing can possibly be "cannon" anyway since there are nasty logical incongruities in their supposition that history can be changed if and when one travels back through tine to do things. I'm off the opinion that if it happened, it happened, and whatever one manages to do back in time has washed out in the events that actually occurred.

Very entertaining. Highlight of the night: Shatner did a spoken word version of Men at Work's song, "Down Under", which led into a recitation of former Prime Minister Gough Whitlam's speech following his Dismissal by the Governor-General in the 70s, which led into a spoken word portion of our national song, "Waltzing Matilda".

A couple of my collecting regrets are Star Trek related though. I was outbid on a Hasbro Star Trek Marble Maze by a sniper some ten years ago and I've not come across another one since. Very annoying since I like those Hasbro Marble Mazes.

Secondly I had bought a Star Trek Tracer Gun cheap at a toy show twenty or more years ago. There must have been a warehouse find of these since every second dealer at the show seemed to have at least one on display. Since I wasn't either a Trekkie nor was I much interested in collecting toys in general at the time, I gave it away to a down on his luck buddy of mine who was indeed a Trekkie. I figured I wouldn't miss it. Well now that I am more of a toy collector I do miss it!

The Star Trek Tracer guns are super! My Tracer rifle is one of the top collectibles in my collection. The rifle is cool, but the colorful packaging is incredible!  Buddy

I'd have to check the boxes to figure out which Enterprise and which Klingon Cruiser came out first myself. I limit my Star Trek collection though to AMT kits before the company became AMT/ERTL.

From my understanding, the long box kits are considered to be earlier issue then the square box.

Your long box Mr. Spock differs from the one I had as a kid and managed to require from Ebay. Mine has the Star Trek title running down the blue bar on the left.
