Aw, she's OK.....I recognize that I'm perpetually a kid. Somebody has to act the adult. She had me putting stuff on E-Bay pretty regularly, but it hasn't been mentioned in about a month....so I haven't put anything on. The toys are smiling. Buddy is smiling......  Buddy

I thought it might be both fun and edifying to take one specific comic and scan every single ad in it.  Sort of like a time capsule. Accordingly, I reached in my beater box and pulled out a comic that graced the newstands just over fifty years ago:

I found these ads interspersed among the 130 story panels and other features. I started the numbering with the cover as page 1:

2 Inside Front Cover

13

15

26

27

30

31

32

33 Inside Back Cover

34 Back Cover

It's no wonder the Aurora monster model kits were a smash hit with youngsters. Check out these ads that appeared on the back of DC comics in 1963-64:

Rip Hunter 17

Rip Hunter 19

Combined with the fabulous box art by James Bama, kids didn't stand a chance of resisting these on store shelves!

Here are scans of three more super cool Aurora monster model ads from the back covers of some of my DC comic books:

Those scans sure bring back a lot of memories.

I sent away for this Jiu-Jitsu booklet. The bastards never sent it to me. I guess ripping youngsters off for a buck was how they made them tough.

Here's another oft seen and sure to impress ad from the same Adventures of the Fly 8:

Twinkles was for a number of months my favourite cereal as a kid. I loved the stories on the back! Here's a cool ad for a Twinkles 45 rpm record from the back cover of the August 1961 Uncle Scrooge:

I remember when they actually had the records on the backs of the cereal boxes. The Jackson 5 I believe were on Alpha Bits and weren't there Halloween specific ones with spooky sounds etc?

Mmmm, after seeing these ads in US comics over many, many years, it finally turned up in our local Magnamail mail order catalogue. My mother agreed to order me one for my birthday (I was about 14 - 1972?), and the result was very underwhelming, especially the tiny box it arrived in! While it appears to be a large, commercial overhead projector (only just starting to become popular in schools in the 70s), it was extremely tiny and required no power source to operate. The ad misleadingly shows the artists using the device from a distance, but the barely-visible superimposed image you are supposed to trace can only be seen on the paper if you press your eye to the viewer. (Then you can't really control your pencil very well.) Mine had a hairline crack in the base, where the upright pole was supposed to connect, so there was enough wobble to be annoying. When copying a 2D artwork, the source material had to be pinned upside down on a wall. It was hopeless trying to get enough light to fall on a 3D object. The trickiest thing was directing light across the source material to illuminate the image clearly - I spent a long time trying to direct a goosenecked desk lamp at the right angle (that I had to return to to my Dad's desk as soon as possible). I used the device once, then hid it in a drawer.

My old pantograph was more fun.

I guess they couldn't get away with that nowadays. I think most ads in comics now are for video games.

Had both of these, but not branded as "Addams Family". Both very cool!
