horror101 got it pretty close. The paper is Canson, which is slightly rough. I never use blending devices because it deludes the color. It's all blended with subsequent lighter colors. The pencils are a mix of Derwent, Prismacolor, and sometimes a Colorama. I think Colorama was discontinued years ago, but I still have some. Derwent is British and a bit more expensive than Prismacolor. The quality of Prismacolor has declined over the years (IMO). I started using them when I was in college (uh, quite a while ago) and took to them right away. At the height of my colored pencil madness, the drawings became a bit unwieldy (expenditure of time and energy). I'll throw a couple of those on here when I get a minute...

Glad i still have some colored pencil knowledge I haven't used mine in years. I'm sorry to hear Prisma Color has gone in the crapper they use to be damn good pencils. All of mine are old is I got nothing to worry about till I have to replace them.

Good call, horror1o1 - I'm still trying to learn my pencils!

Thanks. I kinda color odd with my colored pencils. Here's a old design for a tattoo I did.

ChrisW - I have that Wolf Man box cover, cut out and proudly displayed with the Aurora/Bama ones!

Thanks UP, I'm honored to be in such company!

Good saturation there, Horror.

Speaking of painting, I did this acrylic piece on canvas as a backdrop to my DragonCon display around six years ago (hence my name shamelessly plastered across the top). It's about seven feet wide. I wanted it to be like one of those old circus freak show banners. I even put grommets around the edges. And yes, that's a riff on Botticelli in the center.

DL, simply breath-taking!! Love the circus vibe and the lighting on each character. What a work of art!!

I love circus art!  Conjurs up those mystical & sometimes disturbing (in a good way) images during a stroll down the midway, many, many years ago.  Supercool, dlh!

horror1o1 - the tat art is damn good!

Hokey Smokes! Is that all brushwork or any airbrush?
Also, was it monochrome or color?

Thanks man. That was back when I was trying super hard for a tattoo apprenticeship. All I really got out it though was some one ranking my chain and not in a good way.lol!

It's all brush. I'll post a few details. The blending was frustrating at first; I didn't use any extenders. The acrylic dries fast, so it is actually a bit rough.

Acrylics?!? I can't stand acrylics, so my admiration for your work has just intensified. You're absolutely correct: they dry too doggone fast. Some people (like yourself) can do amazing work with them. I can't do anything with them.

OK, my wife is just awesome. Everyone who knows me knows my obsession for "Chiller Theater", especially the opening animation and audio.

Chiller Theatre opening fixed

Well, somewhere, somehow, my wife found a model of the "Chiller" hand, assembled it and painted it herself for me. I've never been able to post anything in the art gallery due to my terminal talent deficit, but my Nancy created something I'm going to cherish always. Here's Nancy's interpretation of the classic "Chiller" opening........

Personally.........I think it ROCKS!! Anyone have ANY idea who put these models out??
We're all here because we're not all there.

Well, it's still kinda hard to see the roughness of the blends at this scale. My initial frustration was lessened by the fact that said roughness seemed appropriate for the subject matter. Oh, and ChrisW, it was painted in shades of gray in keeping with the charcoal pieces I had on display...

...and there's the recurring screaming lady (she appeared in a couple of pieces, and graces the upper corners of this).
