I think I caught the ImageShack guards off-guard. We'll see if it survives...

Chris the detail on hat ship is incredible! I love the way you painted the sky. Excellent work!

DL: glad yours finally made it through the censors!  :D

RedKing! I hope you do get back into drawing and painting again. I was inspired by some forum artists a few years ago and I've really enjoyed re-inventing myself as well as appreciated any critiques along the way.

Chris! That is a gorgeous painting of the U.S.S. Constellation and I love that sky. I have visited your website a few times before to check out those amaziing  paintings for the kit boxes.   http://www.chriswhiteart.com/   They are all stunning works of art!
What medium do you use to paint with?

Dan! You've outfoxed ImageShack! Very nice! :D

Yea, I guess they were asleep at the switch in the wee hours.  :D
We'll see if this one gets through. They might have a thing against fish hooks.

Illoman

DL, are these recent works? I really enjoy seeing these. Thanks for posting.

Dan, incredible vision. What medium are the large canvasses? Oil?
Would you say Ro'bt Williams was an influence at all? Colors and styles are reminiscent. But your vision is uniquely your own.
Have you ever heard of the Tony Shafrazi gallery in New York? You ought to submit samples of your work.

I'm basically from the same generation as Rob't Williams (he's a few years older than I am). So I think we were both influenced by some of the same things. The biggest difference is that I was never into hot rods. I've met Rob't and he liked my work. I'm not nearly as prolific as he is! I think most of my influences come from movies and books, rather than other visual artists. Sometimes I'll see an artist's work that resonates with me, as if we are on a similar wavelength. Joseph Cornell was one. Early Mad magazine (Jack Davis, Kelly Freas, etc.). The big paintings are oil on canvas. Illo, these last ones are a couple of years old...Thanks for the kudos.

It's all about the Horror.

Dan! I love the latest posts! I'm a sucker for the details and I'm impressed by how you render the droplets of liquid, bringing depth to the images!

Dan, I iChatted your art to some co-workers and they are lovin' it big time.  The question came up- what are your drawings on?  Vellum? Coquille? Mat board? Someone asked if you used blenders for your color pencil drawings. I thought not, but figured I'd ask...

'm gonna guess before Dan answers and say a construction like paper ( something rough). Good colored pencils maybe Prisma? And white colored pencil and possible a blender but mostly white pencil in areas. Let's see how good of a guess I have.  :D

horror101 got it pretty close. The paper is Canson, which is slightly rough. I never use blending devices because it deludes the color. It's all blended with subsequent lighter colors. The pencils are a mix of Derwent, Prismacolor, and sometimes a Colorama. I think Colorama was discontinued years ago, but I still have some. Derwent is British and a bit more expensive than Prismacolor. The quality of Prismacolor has declined over the years (IMO). I started using them when I was in college (uh, quite a while ago) and took to them right away. At the height of my colored pencil madness, the drawings became a bit unwieldy (expenditure of time and energy). I'll throw a couple of those on here when I get a minute...
