Finally! Someone has done Elsa with her copper colored tresses!
Mike, you've given the scene a warm feeling to it--I like that.

Thanks, Meek. Color is something I always seem to struggle with, which is why i enjoy the challenge of interpreting these black and white photos. It gives my imagination free reign.

Quite a while back, I think it was Mario (apologies if I'm wrong) who sent me a wonderful xerox of a photo of Helen Chandler. It just begged to be painted. I finally got around to doing just that. I think she had one of the most beautiful faces. I honestly don't think I did her justice, but gave it my best shot.

Thanks,
Mike

You're right Mike, she was beautiful and you did a beautiful job capturing that look.

Meek - congrats on the bid - as others have said, it's well worth it, and a pity you don't get a cut. But - you can use the final bid as the value of your donation for tax purposes. And of course there is the satisfaction of donating to a worthwhile cause.

The Drunken Severed Head

I've just been catching up on the amazing work posted in the last few pages of this thread by Jesse, Terry, Mike, and Linda. (Am I forgetting someone?) You all deserve regular, big commissions.

My wife and I are lucky enough to own an original Bennett painting and an original Linda Miller painting! We love them both dearly. (And some Dietz prints, too.)

I have just posted to my blog an interview with a guy who paints the Universal Monsters, named Dwayne Pinkney. (That's his name, not the monsters!) He did one of Boris Karloff as Frankenberry that I wish I did own!

See it here:

What do you think of his stuff?

Hey, where's Helen-smitten Terry Ingram's comment on the Chandler portrait by Mike? I'm surprised he hasn't bought to kiss regularly! ;)

It captures her fey beauty very well. I'd buy a print.

Friend Max, thanks as always for the kind words. i appreciate it. I checked out Dwayne's work, and man, he's good!! I relate to what he says about "loosening up"; it's been a struggle with me for years. I really like his style, and think it's just fine.

Take care,
Mike

Sweet paintings!!  I love the Frankenstein oil especially, my favorite monster.  I like the way you snuck the names in on the backgrounds, sneaky but artistic.  Nice.
