I agree, Chris & Meek. Each year, I do a live drawing demonstration for the fans at Wonderfest. The next day the drawing is auctioned off, with the bucks going to one of WF's charities - usually "Guiding Eyes For the Blind." Its a great feeling when that drawing brings in some nice coin for an important cause.

This year my presentation will be a live drawing of Charlton Heston as "Taylor" from PLANET OF THE APES, during which I will give drawing tips and wax nostalgic of the science fiction films of Big Chuck. That sketch will be auctioned on Sunday afternoon. If you're going to be attending Wonderfest this July, please come to my presentation and say hello, ask questions, throw tomatoes, etc. It's always fun.

Speaking of a planet where apes evolved from men...Here's Roddy in arguably his best performance of all the APES films - as "Caesar," whose children shall rule the earth!

All of yall 's  drawings are fantastic!! Makes me want to pick up my pencil and pad and start back.Been years since I've even tried to draw.High school and early adult I did it,but as my eyes caught other things, drawing, monster collecting and the such kinda took a back seat.As I always say One of these days I'am gonna start............(fill in the blank).

Sorry that this is at a bit of a drunken angle but then Shakespeare did spend a great deal of time in pubs.
This is the front of the chair back I've just completed and I'll post some more photos shortly of some details of front and back.
But now I must see to my duty of putting the Internet to bed.

   More anon.

Frank - I'll be sure to check it out. Moebius will have me at their booth a bit but will make every effort to schedule it around your presentation.
Another beautiful piece! To be able to capture the actor under the makeup and prosthetics in a solid caracature is an incredible talent.
Harry - so what are you waiting for man? To paraphrae Ahnald in Predator "Do It! What are you waitng for?" I'll be happy to critique whatever you send my way.

Meek - Yowza!!! That is flippin cool! What is the charity?

This is Shakespeare's coat of arms and is painted directly over his head; his motto reads "Not Without Right" and is my poke at those who say that he didn't write all those plays and sonnets. The College of Arms in London still has the original sketches and letter of application from Shakespeare requesting the issue of heraldric arms. The helmet displayed this way denotes the status of a gentleman.

This is the back of the chair's back; that's ol' Bossy Betty herself, Elizabeth I, flanked by two Tudor roses which depict the uniting of the White Rose of York and the Red Rose of Lancaster via the marriage of Elizabeth of York to Henry Tudor, Elizabeth's grandfather.
The long quote is from "Richard III" and is also what's engraved on the inside of the silver ring that I wear.
The second quote is another poke at history since Shakespeare's depiction of Richard III was based on the Tudor version to legitimize Henry Tudor's usurpation of the crown after the Battle of Bosworth Field in 1485.
The chair's right arm has the White Rose of York and the left arm the Red Rose of Lancaster both with quotes from "Henry VI" on the choosing of sides in the Wars of the Roses.
The seat of the chair contains some Elizabethan profanity like "Earth-vexing Coxcomb!"--just the thing to rest one's bum on and some of the supports for the chair contain more quotes from "Othello", "The Tempest" and "Henry VI" ("First thing we do is kill all the lawyers.")

The charity is for the local community theatre which needs all the $$$ it can get.
I hope they ask me to do this again next year---I'm thinking of a George Bernard Shaw chair.

Hey Terry! Good to see you! I've enjoyed your posts and images here as well-
Thanks, its nice to be doing them again.
Will you be doing WF this year?
Meek, I was looking at your images again - what a labor of love. Did they request the subject or did you select it? And if you selected it, what compelled you to do the Bard?

Meek

Chris: What more appropriate subject to use than Shakespeare as a fund raiser for the theatre? The choice of design was left totally up to me. I was at work at the time I was asked to do this and a co-worker said "Well, who would want to buy an all vampire chair?" and had to restrain myself from clipping her on the ear.  For me Shakespeare is always just below the surface of things; so much of what he wrote has crept into everyday conversation and book titles always borrow from the Bard, from Agatha Christie's "By the Pricking of My Thumbs" to Ray Bradbury's "Something Wicked This Way Comes" are sequential lines liberated from the Scottish play----many phrases that have been taken out of context of the plays have an entirely different meaning, especially in Elizabethan vernacular--an example is the book title "Her Privates, We" written about life in the British Army in WWI but was lifted from "Hamlet" and has really a rather naughty inference to it.(Nudge, Nudge. Wink, Wink.)
Heraldry is also a hobby of mine and have painted a few armorial displays for various people---I wouldn't half mind working for the College of Arms but I understand openings only happen when one of the resident artists dies.

I was hoping to attend Wonderfest again this year , Chris -- especially 'cause of the Rondo ceremony -- but it's looking more and more like I'm not going to get  there -- darn it all.  Maybe I can get our fearless leader to pick my award up for me and bring it back to Minneapolis.....
