Shoot, just the opposite. It took forever for you to put ANY of your artwork on the UMA.
We're all here because we're not all there.

Here's an illustration I did back in junior college to utilize scratchboard technique. It was my first attempt and I'm still very proud of it.  I'm not much of a penciller...obviously used a photo reference.  Backgrounds were always a pain or afterthought for me, too.  Here is the plain version and one I fiddled with a little in Photoshop today:

Doug, that drawing is awesome!!! You really have a nice style going there. Do you have other pieces you can share? Scratchboard is an exacting medium, but you handled it quite nicely. Great job!!!

I don't know what "scratchboard" is, but that is a brilliant work of art!  It looks so alive and breathing!! I say "it" but I assume he's a he with that broad wolfman-ly chest. The effects you added make him look like a movie star- just beautiful!

Thanks for the kind words. Over the years I've become more of an inking specialist since my pencilling ability has its limitations.  Here's a page from my first regular series with DC Comics (ANIMAL MAN) that I was the inker on.  The writer  was awesome (Grant Morrison) and that was his break-out book.  I wish I was more of an overall artist.  The few shows I get to these days I still feel awkward when folks ask for sketches. I usually end up doing a "Hulk face" for the sketch...as he's hard to mess up.  Either you have the knack or you don't.

Give me enough meat and I can finish cooking the meal. Give me bones (sketchy/loose pencils) and we will all starve.

And one scanned from the original:

Curseofthewerewolf - your stuff blows me away!!  Fantastic work!

U.P., Man, I love your work!  We just don't see enought of it! It is always a pleasure to see what you've come up with.  I think your apes and the comic cover for Lester are off the chart.

Curse, those pieces are amazing!  The scratchboard CoWW is just beautiful.  Who did the pencil on that ANIMAL MAN page?  It looks like Brian Bolland??  I envy your inking skills.

What?! It is a classic! Though, it has never been released legitimately on DVD.  I got it on Laserdisc not long ago...I rarely think of buying any these days, but that was the only way to get it...and it was cheap.  Many folks think it is the best werewolf movie ever.

The ANIMAL MAN pages were pencilled by Chas Truog...Brian Bolland did the incredible covers.

QuoteScratchboard or scraperboard is a technique where drawings are created using sharp knives and tools for etching into a thin layer of white China clay that is coated with black India ink. Scratchboard can also be made with several layers of multi-colored clay, so the pressure exerted on the instrument used determines the color that is revealed. Scratchboard can be used to yield highly detailed, precise and even textured artwork.

The kind I used is white and you draw on it and render in India ink and then scratch away some of the black.  Kind of like when you try to cut your images into the surface of blocks to print from if you have ever done that for an art class...like linoleum block prints.  When I took art in college we had to take Printmaking, Textiles, Photography & Printing classes along with the classes you would expect.

You can Google scratchboard and linoleum block prints and see examples.  Some results are pretty amazing.

This set has it on DVD in it, along with some other Hammer horror greats!

It's a pretty decent transfer of it too. It's a great film! He's one of my favorite werewolf designs too! This set also has Night Creatures in it which is a lesser known Hammer gem! Disney produced a version of the same story around the same time too Called Dr. Syn: The Scarecrow of Romney Marsh, which is why Hammers became known as Night Creatures. Worth checking out too!
Do you like monsters? They're my only weakness...

Looking on Google and Amazon now it looks like it indeed has at least comes out in that Hammer Collection series since I did any great research on its availability on DVD.  That used to be one of the classics that wasn't on DVD for some reason (up till then).  The Hammer Collection was put out by Universal, so that is certainly legit.

I was so used to seeing it on our B&W TV (when I was younger) and in monster mag pics in B&W that it was kind of a shock to finally see it in color on TV years ago.  My first oil painting I ever did was of him and I painted him brown like 'normal' werewolves.  When I finally saw the film in color he looked so cool and that was another thing I loved!!!

I enjoyed checking out other Oliver Reed movies after that. I remember he was on David Letterman somewhat drunk and I thought he might hit Dave at some point. Looks like you can watch it on YouTube.  I'll never forget it because I was a fan and it was getting VERY hairy there and Dave was trying to defuse things, but Oliver wasn't 'getting' the spirit of any of the jokes or comments.  I felt bad for Dave.

I remember that Letterman show with Oliver Reed!  You're right, I thought Reed was going to deck David any minute.
