Okay, this one is gonna seem braggy!

Hope thats okay.

All of this Jack Davis talk on the classified board got me thinging that I could share some JD fun!

Okay first and formost THIS POSTER IS PERFECTION!

it was one of the few things I still own from my childhood, purchased from THE CAPTAIN COMPANY, no less.

Here is my own as it was remarked by the man himself at a tribute dinner honoring him, that I was blessed to MC.

Here is the man! (featured also in this pic is Darrell Vidurri's Wonderful sculpture of the head.

And the man with Mrs. Shocker and myself

Some artwork displayed that night.

Some work he did for me.

Dr. Shocker.

Biggs from THE FUGITIVE.

Wonderful cover art for the upcoming Documentary on MOVIELAND WAX MUSEUM.

This is not braggy at all, just real friggin' COOOL.

I'll bet many members of this board still wish they had that poster, the image is such an icon.

I like the black and white caricature of your headshot. The brushstrokes are much looser and it is less detailed than the others, and yet it looks just like you. I also like the Mash illustration.

We have a lot of talented members right here in the ranks, and I know that the artists among us, (myself included) really enjoy looking at monster art and illustrations.

Thanks for sharing these.

Again, great stuff.  Wonderful to see Jack (and the Shockers!) 'in person'--thank you so much.  Gosh, the caricature of you--and the Shocker drawing--TREMENDOUS!  This is a thread that I'll return to and wander around in again.  And again.

Dan, your killing us! This is so much fun it should be illegal. What could you possibly do for an encore? I'm afraid to ask.  :)

I still have that poster from my childhood, too. But mine's not pristine anymore. I 'colorized' it using watercolors. And I'm so used to seeing it that way, I often forget it was originally B&W. Oh well, maybe it's lost some value but I like it. I also have a resin kit of the poster.

I've admired Davis' work for over 40 years.
Dan, you're a lucky man to have had him do that work of and for you!

That is just plan amazing.  It must have been a very special evening.  And, I'm really glad to see that Darrell's sculpt got some props from the man himself.  It's one of my favorite masks of all time.

Dr.Terror

I loved Davis's EC stuff, and of course MAD. But my favorite was the artwork he did for the monster records. "Dracula's Greatest Hits", "Zacherle's Monster Mash Party", and "Music For Monsters"

Not to mention the countless other wonderful  things he did.   Especially movie posters!!
Morning, noon, or night, Anytime . . . . the count may strike. If you're caught you have to linger, Cause Dracula may bite your finger!

I love many artists, but my love for Jack Davis' work is just borderline "the love that dare not speaks it name!" Thats how much I love his talent!

Beyond that he is as gracious a man as I have ever met. And humble.

Here is very rare piece .This is the prelim art for the MOVIELAND PIECE.

Scary Terry

Thanks for posting all that great Davis art.  I'm constantly showing his work to my comic art students at MCAD -- especially when teaching them inking techniques.

There are some artists that really had a major effect on me as a kid; Jack Davis, Sergio A., Wally Wood, Basil Gogos just to name a few.  I would love to some day own an original piece from each of them for my gallery room.

Davis was the first artist I could recognize by style. Because I lived near him (I discovered) his artwork would show up in local stores, signs for church rummage sales, etc, including the country club where I caddies a couple of summers. I couldn't believe it the time the caddy master said to me, "You take Mr. Davis."

I held back during the game, but later interviewed him at his home for a fanzine (that, alas, never came out).

A few years later, a guy I went to college with told me that Jack's son lived in the room next to him. Unfortunately, he didn't tell me until the day after graduation.
