Hey gang.. I have been looking for a Jack Davis image for years now and have not been able to find it.
It was from the 1970 tys in TV Guide of a classic JD chubby Monster eating a box full of popcorn.

Does anyone remember this image and if they have a copy of it can someone post it ? LMK

Here are my 2 meager attempts at re-creating it..

From .. 1974..

From.. 1991

I would love to see the original Davis version again.
Thanks..

Another huge fan of Jack Davis here. Here are two books to hunt down if you don't have 'em already,
The Art of Jack Davis and Some of My Good Stuff both by Hank Harrison.

Wish we could send this whole thread to Jack Davis so he could see how beloved his work is among the Monster Army gang!  This is a great thread--thank you so much, Dan, for starting it!  It really brings home how influential Davis' work was to us monster kids!

Great stuff!  Thanks for sharing it!

Wow, great stuff indeed! Have always loved Jack's EC and Mad stuff.

The Phantom Creep

There is a dvd out there called DAMN GOOD DOG. It's a documentary about the Georgia Bulldogs football team and it's mascot UGA. The strange thing is that I have this dvd, and I mention it because it's basically a discussion with Jack Davis about his artwork, and it's incredibly short. Well I just went to amazon.com to make sure I had the name correct and apparently my dvd is some sort of abbreviated version because the full thing is 140 mins. We received the one I have free at a video store I used to work in and I got it once we were done with it. I guess mine was just a local thing. Anyways it's a decent interview with Mr. Davis but like I said, waayyy too short.

Oh and while I was looking on amazon.com I came across this tray puzzle by Jack Davis that I had never seen before and thought I would share it here.

What region of the country did you see this in? East? Central? West? I used to collect TV Guides and Jack Davis made the cover lots of times, especially in the 60's & 70's, but this ad may have been for a regional TV program---I'll guess New York/ New Jersey and not national. I still have quite a few TV Guides from the 1970's but don't recall ever seeing this ad---up until 1975 I was in the Philadelphia region and then ended up in the Nebraska region. I have that edition with the cast from M*A*S*H on the cover as well as "The Godfather", "McCloud" and more that I can't think of right now. Charles Addams did a few covers for TV Guide as well.
Sadly, TV Guide has gone sleazy tabloid format and there are no more great illustrations gracing the covers as in years past---that's what broke me of my collecting habit which lasted for over 25 years.

It was NY ,NJ version of the TV guide.
It would be so cool if someone can post a copy of it.
I also think it was an ad for Thriller thats why I drew the logo in there.

Don't sell yourself short on those recreations! I'd be happy if I could do half that good.

The Toyroom

Awesome stuff! Nice to see so many fans of Jack Davis. He was always my favorite of the EC horror artists, his Crypt-Keeper is fantastic. I still think that TV Guide cover he did with Cookie Monster has to be one of my all-time favorites.

Think outside the box!

One of my favorite people. I remember reading the early Mad paperbacks that were printed sideways late at night when the rest of the family was asleep. His work always stood out as the most wildest stuff...

An original JD Frankenstein poster with 1970's Captain Company copyright..

Kind of a blurry pic of a couple JD Frank heads, a model, record , limited ed. signed poster & Mad Monster figure...

monstroza, that is some beautiful stuff you have there! Thanks for the pics!
