I am not sure if anyone has  talked about this or not: Dr. Creep, a horror host for years in Dayton Ohio and pretty big local celebrity in his day, has suffered a series of strokes and is in a coma. Now, for me this is pretty gut wrenching. Along with my grandma and my pops, Dr. creep kept my interest in all things monsters alive growing up. The story is about a week old, but this is the first I have heard of it. :'(

I met him once doing a promotion at a Magic Dealers booth at Trader's World flea market a few years back and we talked primarily about Lugosi's Dracula and Chaney's Wolfman (both of our favorites as it turns out). This is horrible news.  All who watched or knew him must feel the same. Prayers for him and his kin.

Don't know the name, but best wishes nonetheless!

The emotional connection to our childhood icons can make things like this really traumatic. I understand your feelings completely Anton. Prayers from Castle Scatter.

All positive thoughts in his direction.  My own favorite, Sammy Terry (central Indiana tv), is getting to be up in years, too, and I have heard that he cannot do personal appearances any longer.

I loved Sammy too!  I was actually behind him (or a really good impersonator) in line at the post office once.  He was speaking to the clerk and I thought to myself, "Man that guy sounds familiar". I was stunned because I thought he lived in Indiana (since the show was broadcast there). Who knows~maybe he just was traveling through and wanted to get some stamps.  At any rate~the lady behind the counter said "Thanks~see ya later...'Sammy'" and he gave his trademark laugh.  I was so amazed at the whole thing I didnt even ask if it was really him or not. If it was an impersonator he was darn good.

Thta's too bad.  It's a shame when a persons quality of life is in such bad condition.  I know of him through the American Scary doumentary.  His show looked like it was fun.

I grew up in Eastern PA so I have no childhood memories of Dr Creep.

But when my family first got a computer/Internet, his website was fascinating to me. He may have been the first horror host I sought out, did research on, found videos of, etc.

Anton, thanks for bringing up Dr Creep. I saw it on the news but have been so busy it slipped my mind. I was lucky enough to have two Horror Hosts when I was growing up. Dr Creep out of Dayton, and the Cool Ghoul out of Cincinnati.

One year for Dr Creep's birthday I sent him a drawing I did of him at the head of a table with a birthday cake, surrounded by all the monsters. I was probably about 13 or 14. I was hoping he would show it on his show that week. My mom and I stayed up to watch him, as he came on at 11:30pm after the news. As it turned out there was a local basketball game on, which went to overtime and delayed Shock Theater even later. My mom fell asleep, but I woke her up when I screamed as I saw my drawing full screen on the teevee!!! It was an awesome monster kid moment.

I never got to meet the Dr, but just this last Halloween a friend of mine saw him at a Halloween store appearance, and got me his autograph.

He's done a ton of charity work over the years. God bless Dr Creep!!!!

Cool story Mike! Having my drawing on a horror TV show would have been the highlight of my MonsterKid existence!!

This is horrible.  Didn't grow up with Dr.Creep, but enjoy his old shows on VHS: vol. 1 and vol.2.  He was really talented and extreamely funny.  Another tragic loss for monster kids everywhere.
