Dreams of friends since gone...

I had a dream about my old dog, Cal.  We lost him June 2008.  I still miss him.  Here's a picture of the lunkhead.

I have not.  I believe there are 2 types of people who love dogs---the type that MUST get another one immediately after one is lost (my mother in law) and the type that cannot (me).

We lost him 2 months before my (now) 2 year old was born and would have planned to wait anyway.  The baby would have gotten ALL the attention (and there were some complications at birth) and it just would NOT have been fair to a puppy or a dog.

Now I think we're ready for a dog----except we're trying to buy a new house and until that happens, I won't get a dog.  AS SOON as it happens, I WILL.

Good. I'm glad to hear that. Best wishes with buying the new house BTW. Here's hoping the path is smoother than ours was LOL!!

Sean, at least once a year, I have a dream about my ol' buddy, Otto.  Otto was an unwanted puppy, whose mom was a Rottweiler and dad was an evidently, smaller, "shadow in the night".  Just the best friend you could ever have.  We also had two full-blooded Rotts, a female named Greta & a big male named Max.  But Otto was my pal.  He died on Halloween Night in 1998 and we buried him in our backyard.  He was 11 years old and I still miss him.

Our current dog, Josie, a goofy a** Yorkshire Terrier, will be 8 years old in February.
I'm sure she'll live to be a hundred ...

I've had little use for our dog Bosco...........but he's starting to grow on me. I even took him for a ride around the block in the van last night because I know how much he likes it.

Yeah, irritating as she is, Josie LOVES me and thinks I'm just WONDERFUL, so yes, I do sometimes take her for rides and stuff.

I had a little miniature Schnauzer from age 7 to age 23, and it took me about 5 years to heal.  I grew up with him.  A friend at work gave me a copy of "Rainbow Bridge", and it helped immensely.  It also helped when my dad passed over...because I know my little friend charged over that bridge and started pulling at dad's pantleg....

'Rainbow Bridge' is an excellent book, 'E'!  I read it to my oldesr daughter (she was 4 when Cal passed).  It was gut wrenching.  Everybody cried.  The book helped.

I always said that if Cal had opposable thumbs, he'd be running a major corporation.  We got him a new bed and he immediately custom tailored it------by eating the zipper-------so he could climb inside and sleep like a human would with a blanket.  Initially, we were horrified that he was destroying this beautiful bed with his name embroidered on it.... then we remembered that it was HIS.

Great thread, Sean. I've had dream visits (which, without stirring up a quasi-religious debate, I sometimes think ARE literally that) from several departed friends, furry and otherwise.



Including (Eu)Gene (the Jeep), who we lost to brain cancer a few years back.

Maybe you should have giving him a blanket with his name on it, too.

  I wish that my wife and I had another dog.  I've had at least one around since I was born!  Our last dog was a full blooded Cocker  Spaniel.  She lived for 12 1/2 years.  She was MY dog and I was the Alpha Male in her pack!  I'd say more about that but I don't want the ASPCA after me!  When she died, all of us (my wife, my two kids and myself) were there, trying to ease her pain as she struggled to breathe.  That seems like it was a long time ago, although it really wasn't.  I miss her a lot!
