Jim B.- You already had a flair for decorating at 15!! That room is a perfect monster room! Wow, if that had been my room- I NEVER would have left home! The desk and display area is exactly what I want -in 2011. The theater seat is pure genius-paired with the monster desk.  I have never seen any of those posters before. Ahhhh! I t really is an awesome room- what city was the Crest Theater in?

Oh yeah, I forgot to mention that Dr. Emmett Brown was my 3rd grade teacher and I got it on a class field trip! LOL!
Honestly I don't know how that happened!

RICKH, Charp13 and Jim, thanks a ton for posting these pics and for keeping this thread alive! Rick, your room looked *awesome*!! It's so cool to see the Aurora models in all these old pics. Charp that car looks great, and I *love* that hillbilly behind you! Jim, I remember seeing your pics before, and am glad to see them again. I think most of us had magical childhoods when you look back. Mine had it's problems like anyone else, but overall my parents loved me and allowed me to decorate my room like I wanted, and they helped me get the toys that were important to me at the time.

I know I've posted these before, but it's been quite a while and heck, this is a great place to bring them up again.

This is my room about 1966, when I was 15.

And this one is  from a year or so earlier.

This one must be from around 1969 or 1970 because I was able to "borrow" those theatre seats from the old Crest Theatre where I worked.

AWESOME room!!
We're all here because we're not all there.

It's a rip in the fabric of time. You know, same old same old.

Wow, great pics from Rick, Charp, and Jim!

Rick, you look absolutely adorable. Your junior man cave with the mix of monsters and military is so perfect.

Charlotte, do you have any idea where you were in that pic? Looks pretty funky!

Jim, you certainly had a lot of cool artwork on display! I also noticed some buttons -do you recall what they were? I thought one looked like the Thing from Marvel comics.

Love this thread!

Moonshadow- I'm pretty sure I was in some kind of roadside attraction about Moonshiners. The whole place was weird and had you walk through and read wooden cutouts of various hillbillys with descriptions of the moonshine "culture".  I remember they had a giant moonshine still set up and it was inappropriate for kids. haha! They didn't have real moonshine, but you could watch liquid go through the process. It was in Florida, probably near Ocala where my grandma still lives.  She's around 90 years old ( technically she's my step-grandma) and she's still pretty cool!  I will almost bet the attraction was in St. Augustine. Because we went to the old jail and the Fountain of Youth as well as Six Gun Territory- whew! What an itinerary!

Yeah, that was a great room. I'm just sorry I didn't have pictures of the rest of it. After I started working at the theatres (first the Crest and afterward the Ritz, both in San Bernardino) I was able to plaster my walls with one sheets. I remember having an original Planet of the Apes, Green Slime, Destroy All Monsters, THX 1138 and a bunch of others. That desk/bookcase was built in to the wall when we moved into that house, it had a built in fluorescent light fixture above the desk and it was the perfect place to build models and write. That spot where all the buttons are was a built in speaker, but it lead to nowhere.  Speaking of the buttons, Moonshadow, here's a closer look at most of them as they are today right next to me as I post this.

IN the upper right are 5 home made monster pins, the high contrast Wolf Man was store bought. Other pins came from Dan Roebuck, one Ackermuseum pin from Joe Moe, The Prisoner button was sent to me by a friend from England. Of course I have my UMA buttons proudly displayed and I still have my Creepy Fan Club Button and my Merry Marvel Marching Society button. Finally that Thing button was also home made, I actually tried to give it to Jack Kirby at the first San Diego Comic Convention, but he didn't want to put a hole in his suit, so I still have it.
As for the other artwork on display, the Frankenstein piece is a photostat of a mock greeting card my dad brought home for me. I don't know who the artist is. The other three pieces in the color photo were drawn by me.
This is a very fun and nostalgia inducing thread and I'm enjoying everyone's photos very much. It's great to see all this stuff and relive those long ago memories.

One question.... Those UMA pins.. Explain.

They were fund raisers to support the UMA Toy Exhibit for several years running.  There are another two pins dedicated to Monster Toys of the 60s & 70s which are not displayed here because they're still in their very cool packaging. I believe they were created by the Monstrously talented Richard Olson. Looks like they may become highly sought after collectibles in their own right.

I know this thread started out as photos of our childhoods, but it's grown into much more. I'm posting this photo because all of these are friends who have survived life's journey with me. I have had all these from childhood, and am very glad that they are still around:

Fleegle was my favorite Banana Split. I have photos from when I first got Mickey and Batman. Topo Gigio was given to me since we used to watch him on the Ed Sullivan show each week. HR Pufnstuf was a mail in premium from Pop tarts I believe. I have been a Gumby fan ever since I can remember, and wish i still had my Gumby drawing kit that I had as a child.

A moonshiners exhibit! Now that's something I bet you don't see much of today. With all those other stops it sounds like quite the trip! I can recall as a kid stops in California with dinosaurs, and cowboys and indians. Of course we also had a lot of missions and sometimes outside of those were merchants set up, selling all kinds of stuff. Of course, today kids would be too busy watching their cars' DVD player or fiddling around on their PSP!! They'd never see anything....
