If you look close at the first birthday pic, you'll see the eye of one of my friends peaking out of the long windowpane that flanked our front door.  I never noticed this until I scanned and enlarged the pic recently!  Early "photobomb!"

Awesome pics, and possibly the world's first photobomb to boot!! Can't beat that, Terry!!

I've really enjoyed the pictures that have been posted on this thread!  It really brings back great childhood memories.  I've finally tracked down several pictures of my room from 1964 so I'll go ahead and throw my pictures  into the mix.  Oh yeah, I should mention the paint job on my walls... I loved anything to do with the army, war, etc., so my mom "camouflaged" my room.  I thought it was super cool!

RICKH- You are cuter than any child actor of our lifetime!  :)  That smile is so sweet, there's NO way you ever got into any trouble!  And that room of yours is an early version of the Man-cave!  Wow! I really want those curtains, I would love to have them in my den. So cool!!  I remember having smiley face curtains back in the 70s. And you must have had really awesome parents that let you express yourself with the camo paint job- well done! I zoomed in on your model shelf and they were all impressive. Did you do those at such a young age? I couldn't put a snap tite together properly in my 20s! Thanks for sharing your wonderful pictures.

Rick, firstly, your mom rocks!! What WON'T moms do for their kids?? Secondly, you had your OWN TV IN 1964?!?! Unfettered access to Creature Features and Chiller Theater?? I would have definitely been your best friend, although I was actually born in 1964. You would have been the kid everyone thought had a huge tumor on your neck, not knowing it was me as an infant clinging to you for dear life (and Monster TV access).

On another note, how FREAKING AWESOME to see a room bedecked and festooned with monsters, small and heavy armaments, army gear, and all manner of plastic reproductions of killing machines of all kinds. Today a kid such as yourself (and the majority of this MB) would be immediately subjected to various and sundry forms of psychoanalytical quackery for living in such a room as yours (which I would gladly live in today). The 60s and 70s were NIRVANA!!

Awesome pic my friend!! Thanks for sharing it with us!!

Wow RICKH, my mom would freak if any room on the house wasn't plain WHITE.  Your Mom was cool to help you espress your childhood.  Fantastic example of a true Monster room from the past.  Great pics.

By the way, I couldn't help notice the suspicious looking plant in your..ahem...60's era room.  Hence the smile maybe. lol. C:)

Charp, I wish I still had that hair!  As to getting in trouble...I was a terror!  I'm reminded of that frequently by people who knew me when I was a kid, especially since I'm a teacher and a minister :-[
As for the monster models, I worried the snot out of my Mom and my older brother about putting them together and painting them.  They were both too good to me.  Funny story: When I got the Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde model I couldn't get my mom or brother to paint it for me.  So, I asked my dad if he would do it.  Now he had NEVER put together or painted any of my monster models, but he said okay.  Well when he was finished I had never seen anything like what he had done to my model.  I asked him what he had done to my model...he said he tried to make it look like the painting on the box. I told him it didn't look anything like the box, I think I hurt his feelings.  He never painted another model and I was glad!
Scatter, you are right I think back on all that my mom, and my dad, did for me to make me happy and I know I was blessed.  As for the television, it only picked up one station and there weren't any stations showing the Universal Monster movies around here back then (sigh!).  I remember watching The Lone Ranger, Clutch Cargo and Space Angel on it.  It was a magical time.
Oh yeah, I still have all of the monster models in the photos as well as Garloo!

Rickh! Magical photo! A great kid's room! The Marx German helmet is great! THE grail I am always on the look for is that German helmet and the luger pistol together on the original card. Bought it like that when I was a kid, and have never seen one since......Bud

What a fun photo, Charlotte! Must be one of those hillbilly themed stops! Everyone is coming up with such great photos! This is the best post on the site! Keep em coming!  Love, Buddy

The first thing I thought of charp, was the movie Chitty Chitty Bang Bang.  The figure in the far right background kinda looks like Count Chocula to me.   fantastic photo, your parents took a lot of great attraction photos with you kids in them.  I envy that, when we went on trips no photos taken.  Like Buddy said, keep these images coming.

Creepysfan.....what gives?  A new avatar! Or am I just confused?   Buddy

Jim Bertges

I know I've posted these before, but it's been quite a while and heck, this is a great place to bring them up again.

This is my room about 1966, when I was 15.

And this one is  from a year or so earlier.

This one must be from around 1969 or 1970 because I was able to "borrow" those theatre seats from the old Crest Theatre where I worked.

You knew the job was dangerous when you took it, Fred.

CreepysFan

Oh man, Jim, those seats are awesome.  Actual theater seats, who knows how many of our beloved monster films those seats were witness to.  Get idea, wish I could have snatched one. You had a monster room I would have killed for during that time period. Pretty wicked old desk too, perfect for your collection.

Buddy, yeah new avatar.  Love Planet of the Apes, my favorite Sci-Fi movie.  But be patient, you know I can't go long before my beloved Uncle Creepy represents my avatar once again.
