The foil keeps the aliens mind control out.  Love your expression, I miss the total happiness of childhood.

Yeah, there is...although I don't remember it personally! But my mom told me that both my brother and I were sick with colds, so she set us up on the couch in the family room (note blankets and pillows on couch) in front of the TV, of course, to recover. To cheer us up, she made us foil 'martian' hats. Judging from our faces, it seems to have worked!

If you look in the background, to the left you can see the table with the slot car track. My brother is still racing slot cars 44 years later!

What an awesome Mom!!! Whenever I was sick I got to recover in my parent's bedroom during the day because there was a teevee in there! I got to watch Password, Hollywood Squares, Sale of the Century, etc.

You say it's Monolith, but it'snot.
You knew the job was dangerous when you took it, Fred.

Moonshadow- You and your big bro are adorable  :)   and I agree that your Mom was super cool to set you up with foil hats to accompany your imagination! Have you seen the price of aluminum foil lately??  Whew! If you're gonna make one now, make sure you take care of it after each space mission.
Monolith-I am going to S.D. for the first time, in July!  I'm sooo excited! My daughter's fiance is from a small town, but we're all staying in a cabin in the Black Hills and we will be hitting everything from The Corn Palace to Crazy Horse. I'm going to find out where that awesome Bison statue is and my daughter and I will try to re-enact your photo. I'll let her be the snot. So, sometime in July- I will post it........of course it won't be as cute as your photo  :)

I race slot cars on a bigger track and often venture to Race World to compete with both big and little kids.  Here is my baby ...

Illo, she really was a lot of fun and very imaginative. She was always encouraging us in whatever we were currently interested in.

Charp, funny you should mention it, but whenever Mom told that story, she always made sure to include how our Dad complained about her wasting foil like that! Dad was a lot more practical...one of those guys where if you held the fridge open more than two seconds, you'd hear about it!

Hahaha!!!  Yay!   Moonshadow- I grew up in a laid back family that really put no value on possessions or pre-planned meals or cared if the door was wide open and the heat/ac was running!!  And I couldn't be more different!!  Ahhhhhh!  You're wasting ________   (insert any word here)!  I spend so much time following my husband around and turning off lights. WTF?  Why would you need every light on when it's daylight?  Anyway, I'm not a cheapskete- in fact no monster toy or Disney addict can really be a cheapskate, but it's the whole "save electricity, gas, resources, etc."  feeling I got from the 70s that made me this way- Thanks TV and your conservation agenda!!  :)  But, yes- I completely understand- FOIL does not grow on trees!

Here's another image of my baby ...

Wow, very detailed! I've seen some of my brother's cars and they are similar. He lives on the central coast in California and goes to races in his hometown and also in southern California.
