Model painting 911
« on: January 21, 2011, 03:48:41 PM »
Ok, I've began painting Kong. The problem is, the clay I used is not my usual marblex.  I've used this clay before, and it painted well. I don't know if they've changed the formula or is it because the piece is much, much larger, but When I applied the black base coat, the clay bled through and I cannot get a solid coat over the piece. Fortunately, most of it is under the fur when I am done, but the face and chest pads need to be solid. I am using acrylic paint. any ideas?

That is odd-acrylic should stick to most anything. How many coats have you applied? It may take several to completely cover it.

This clay usually doesn't require it. And I've applied two. If It does it again I'll varnish it and spray it again.

Got the paint on, more or less. What bled through will be covered by fake fur.

I had a similar problem once but not with clay. I basecoated it with housepaint. I found the formula to be a little thicker and  it still is acrylic and paintable over by craft acrylics. Also it didn't lose any of the detail.

What didn't stick was covered over by fur, and the piece is complete now, over on the enlistee's art gallery.
