Mrs Frankenstein

My latest "only weakness"

crap mobile photo, so here is a scan :

It is quite special, signed with first name only, no Clive.
I have seen him do that just once before, in a letter to his backstabbing witch of a so called wife.
So..it was probably for a good friend of his.

I love that is says Chesto!..inside joke guaranteed.
Colin was a bit of a joker, a great sense of humor and said to be quite the comedian.
..and totally better looking than Gable !

Okie dokie:

i have that photo signed too. Its like the definitive Price picture I think. Even though it was from a kind of forgettable mystery flick, the Bat silhouette still suits him for his "scary status". A few of mine already posted somewhere I'm sure. Not a lot of color auto pics of the horror stars is there? Show your colors, lol.

Anton, that self portrait is *awesome*!!!

...and its real! You wouldnt believe the massive amount of fakes on ebay (some now, some past) that I have seen. I wrote Vincent Price (as I am sure many others here did) off and on for the last 4 years of his life. He signed anything I sent him absolutely free. I just had to pay return postage. Aint it a shame that just 17 years ago a genuine article could be had for free...and now fakes abound at ridiculous prices. Authentic examples arent exactly cheap these days either.......I miss Vincent Price.  :'(

scorpio

there great anton, it is a shame to think all these great actors like v, price p, cushing etc
would take the time to reply to your letters, thats the reason we all miss them so much,
they were great actors, and genuine nice people as well.

Same here.  One of a kind.  Loved him in the Raven as well as anything else.  I started watching PBS Mystery just because he was hosting it.

I believe it says, "Cheers!".  He just didn't lift his pen from the paper between the "s" and the exlamation mark.

Nope, I traced the pen and know his letters /way of writing.
You can see that the O is the same as in Colin for instance.
The auction also stated that it said "Cheers!" and I can see why someone might think so, it is not the first time people have had a hard time reading his handwriting.
Also, Chest-o! was a expression used in that period.
Quote:
"Chesto! or Chest-o! - Request to anyone to get off a chest lid, so that the chest may be opened"

So basically he is telling this dude to get cracking at something, perhaps they worked together or planned to, might be some theatre thing, since the autograph is obviously early 30s.
It is typical Colin humor, he would use a lot of strange expressions at times, he read a lot of books, used a lot of bizarre jokes in his conversations and was a slightly camp person, camp as in acting in a theatrical way in normal life.
I am adding a larger image of the word and took it through photoshop, removed some of the shadows so that you will find it easier to trace the pen, on the actual image it is easy to trace the pen, in a photo it is harder.

As you can see, what you might think is a second E, if you trace the pen it goes straight up and over to the right and curls back to the left as in a S.

Interesting.

I'd never heard that expression before.  I see what you mean by the pen strokes.
