Thinking of the tiny Lionel Belmore--here's my smallest autograph.  Some long years back--it would have been in the 1970s-- I cut out a tiny photo of Alfred Hitchcock, about stamp-size, and pasted it to a 3x5 card and sent it to him.  About a year later, long after I'd given up on hearing back from him, I got my SASE in the mail with the tiny photo inside--the 3x5 card apparently had parted company with the photo, and Hitch (or whoever) actually went ahead and just signed the photo itself.  I say "whoever", as I can't count on it actually having been signed by Mr. H. himself.  He did some signing, but also had a lot of fan stuff signed by secretary, maybe by daughter Pat, too.  But it's such a fun piece I like it regardless.
I stuck it in the corner of a frame with a larger photo--

and here's a close-up of the actual mini-pic with mini-autograph!

That's amazing! I personally have issues with Hitchcock films, but there's no denying he's a legend!

I myself bought a Dana Andrews autograph off eBay last week for $9. That's £6.50 ;)

That's cool.  What is it on?  I could see pairing it with a shot from CURSE OF THE DEMON.

It's a photo from a film called 'The Last Tycoon' or something. Never seen or heard of it, but it has a young Robert deNiro in it.

That's a great price for Dana Andrews!  You did well.

As for having less than golden opinions about Hitch, I'm with you on that-- in fact, you have a sizeable group to rub shoulders with!  He did fine film work, but certainly was frequently not, from all I've read and heard over the years, a gent who was pleasant to be with or to work for.

Just ask Billy Mumy!  I believe that there's a fun interview with him on the Witches Dungeon's next DVD from Cortlandt Hull.

Most Horrible

I have a program for an performance in San Francisco in the late 1950's that is autographed by Maria Meneghini Callas. The autograph is rather sweet because she did not give herself enough room on the program to sign her full name so it gets a little cramped in writing near the end. Sweet find!

A little classical music talk for a change!  Did she include Meneghini in her signature?  I don't think I ever heard her spoken of as anything but "Maria Callas".  The addition of the M-name in the middle would surely have made her autographing things an adventure!  In the same field--well, vocal performer, anyhow--I have a couple in my collection that were space-filling autographs, too--Anna Maria Alberghetti and Amelita Galli-Curci (this last one I just got a couple weeks ago, dated 1917).  Fortunately for Amelita, she had plenty of room to scrawl her considerable John Hancock (so to speak).

Getting back to film and our favorite genre--I know I have shown this somewhere, sometime--but maybe not in the present incarnation of the UMA.  This is from the play OUTWARD BOUND and most diehard Universal fans will recognize the names.  Bramwell Fletcher (THE MUMMY and SVENGALI) and Helen Chandler (DRACULA, and she was also in the film version of OUTWARD BOUND).  At the time they were in this play, Fletcher and Chandler were husband and wife.  A year later would find them apart, and Helen beginning her long sad decline.

I haven't put 'em together yet, but these are the photos I plan to display on either side of this program--

Bramwell being frightened out of his wits by Boris--

And Helen, in a dangerous situation with Bela--

Not sure if I shared this one before. EG Marshall was an actor, and most notably host of the CBS Radio Mystery Theater. This is a signed theater program.

Got this nice surprise when I sent author Ray Bradbury a fan letter years ago.
