TELL ME ABOUT IT!.  They have a certified Clive headshot going for approx. $4000, and an album page sig. going for 400.00 on EBAY.

Clive's writing is very interesting...neat, precise and almost incomprehensible.  I would say to always look for something that has a tag other than just the signature.  Something like "Best Wishes.  The signature itself is legible.  Also, he frequently signed albums with green fountain pen ink.  Have the ink dated, because they changed the composition in the late 30s.  The original had so much copper in it that people were getting sick from moistening their pen nibs.

Does that jibe with your expertise, Mario?

Even if I could afford $6000, I wouldn't pay that much for an autograph, even if it was from a real werewolf!

I know...neither would I.  I've been lucky, though, to see scans, and to know someone who works for Heritage Auctions.  Several years ago, he catalogued items from the estate of Jeanne DeCasalis...Colin Clive's widow.  The only Clive item was a fully handwritten letter...totally innocuous, written on the stationary of the residential hotel where he was living at the time....   Neat, precise and EXTREMELY hard to decipher....

Now THAT would have been REALLY something....

Mario, I was informed that Willis went for $53,000 by the time it was said and done. I know one of the bidders.

Lugosifan1

Holmes , I checked, winning bid was $6389.00 including sellers premium. Now there might have been a maximum bid awaiting in the wings of the 53,000.00. just to secure the bid always jumping up. I know a couple of the bidders myself, me included! but that seems really high. And Elisabeth, that Clive letter sound's exciting!!! if you could read it. LOL .  And  Rob let me if that Darby Jones starts to lose your interest. Mario

$6000 for an autograph?  :o

Oh, Mario...IF ONLY!!!  I only heard of  it through my friend.  I'll email him, though, and see if I can get a transcript.  Colin is the original "riddle wrapped in a conundrum and surrounded by an enigma".  The stuff just ISN'T out there.  All I basically know is from Greg Mank's book HOLLYWOOD'S MADDEST DOCTORS.  He was pretty much estranged from Jeanne DeCasalis from about 1934, and had a young lady friend.  She was a young, red headed dancer from the EARL CARROLL VANITIES named Iris Lancaster.  All that's really known is that they were together for about a year and a half...(during which time Colin did his finest work...aka ONE MORE RIVER, THE RIGHT TO LIVE, BRIDE OF FRANKENSTEIN...) and that she made the funeral arrangements.

Poor lost soul....

I haven't made up a display for it yet, but I wanted to share a pic of the autograph that I had been searching for.  I was almost convinced that I would never find one.  It's from Todd Armstrong of JASON AND THE ARGONAUTS.  He died from a self-inflicted gunshot wound in 1992 at the age of 55.  He didn't do much acting after the 1960s.

Now I just need Patrick Wayne and Harry Hamlin to complete my heroes of Harryhausen.

Thanks for posting it Rob!  it's a cool piece!  Can't wait to see how you display it.

An excellent book by Greg profiling Clive, Atwill and Zucco. The Clive section was my favorite. A very absorbing read. I saw his signature once at a show, written in green ink and it was very cool. It was $300, if I recall correctly. It would be a unique piece to own. I could have taken that and the Lorre and matted it with something "Mad Love" related. But, the dealers room had already sucked the life out of my change purse.

It's not just about who you have, but what they mean to you.  Sounds like you have great memories associated with both of those.  I've heard that John Landis is a nice guy.  When I meet the celebrities at conventions, I tend to get a bit tongue-tied.  Still, I have had some great experiences with some of them.

I stood in line at least 2 hours to meet John Landis. He was so worth it. He didn't rush anyone. When I was done I didn't even care about standing in line. I would love to meet him again anytime.

I know...Oh, I know.  (g)  This is mildly off topic,  but I collect photos...mostly off the web, of course...because I am homebound now.  When I was working in the library, and recommending classic movies to patrons... I would have people ask "who IS 'so and so'?".  Fortunately, I could tell them AND show them.

I always try to get a "civilian" portrait, and a picture in character.  I remember a "20 something" looking at a portrait of Clive facing a picture of Henry Frankenstein...  She said, "I thought all he did was scream... he's a FOX!"

Now I have approximately 2500 pix that I am in the process of cataloging...and loving every minute of it.

IT'S UP TO US!!

Elisabeth

ps.  He WAS a FOX  :)
