You've definitely got the eye. What details present themselves to your trained eye to show it's "forgeriness"? Or do you know its history like the last one? Too bad you dont collect all the rest---you'd be invaluable at authentication.

Mrs Frankenstein

There are several things that is obviously wrong with it.
I believe it is the same man who have forged this one, the writing have a different angle but the same letters with slight variations, also I think he reads this forum and know about all the auction houses and other places to find vintage photos etc.
He is apparently one of the most notorious forgerers according to the man who helped me close him down the last time.
The ink also looks fresh to me, it is glossy and have the look of new ink, not old..the way it seperates and the fact that it is pitch black, not just black.
I will not get into details, if would make it easier to forge a Clive signature.
Another thing, it was sold within the same time frame as the other one.
In his emails to me he appeared quite batty, his lies were extreme and he seemed aggressive.
If anyone find a Clive, just ask me..I am not buying anymore album pages or index cards, I only go for something other than the usual Best Wishes or signature.
I contacted the auction house but have not yet heard back from them..but one thing is for sure, their authentication methods suck!
Sorry for bugging you all with this once again  :)

if you collect autographs you need as much help as possible,
to try and stay one step ahead of all the fakes out there,
its good to see someone with so much knowledge about them. ;)

I see a whole lot of fake Christopher Lees, Vincent Prices, and even a few Peter Cushings.....but Clive is in a whole 'nother field of moolah. He's big bucks. because he's so rare---there isnt as much familiarity among collectors with his siggy.  I aint got one of him. When I think of how gracious these three gentlemen were (before ebay and the internet)~ how they would sign for free until their arms cramped up.....only to see people forging their signatures now makes me sick. Lee doesnt even sign on Christopher Lee web anymore from what I am told. I hope your forger gets caught and goes ta jail.

Opera Ghost

Back in August, I came across an autographed photo of Brooks Robinson and Frank Robinson, sold for a dealer at Angel's Stadium. I've wanted both, never thinking I'd get both on same photo, so with a little haggling, I walked away with this treat for all of the friggin OT I've had. Only Bummer was the the Orioles lost that game.

Growing up just a little Northeast of Baltimore, I've always been a big Os fan, and Brooks has always been my favorite.

In a somewhat related, but not necessarily anecdote, I about had a cow when I heard Raven's Suggs and Lewis command 75 and 85 dollars for appearance autographs!

Especially when you consider how easy it is to make an "X".

You know Rob, your comments about autograph pricing really hits home for me. I don't seek out autographs much any more, but I'm frequently shocked by the prices asked by some of the individuals at shows now. I guess I'm spoiled, as when I first started attending comic and Star Trek cons, autographs were free. Heck, I got Stan Lee, Jack Kirby, Chuck Norris, James Doohan (several times), Nichelle Nichols, and others all free. It seems like it was around the mid 90s when people started charging at shows. At first it wasn't too bad -maybe $10 or so. But soon you had a lot of no name people ('Ensign Jimmy' from episode 56) asking for $25 for a signed photo, and the real 'stars' were asking anywhere from $40-50! That was bad enough, but now prices like $80 are not unusual. On the rare occasions I get an autograph, I do it mainly for the experience of meeting someone -the photo and signature is a great memory jog. But at this point there are very few people I'd be willing to pay more than $50 to meet and get an autograph. Heck, some people won't even say hello or look at you when they sign (yes Carrie Fisher, I mean you!).

I'll be going to Monsterpalooza this year -my first ever horror con -and I would love to get autographs from Julie Adams, Linda Harrison, and Bob Burns, but I'm already thinking that due to pricing, I may have to choose just one.

OG, you should post you Robinson's photo!  Sports autographs was where I started collecting autographs.

I need some help/advice:

I picked up a photo that has an inscription ("For ____"). The inscription can be removed without touching the signature area. But its been on the photo so long, my old tricks wont remove the writing.

I have a little trick for getting sharpie off of newer autographed photos. You know--you buy an autograph that says "To Ray"...and your name aint Ray. But I dont have a method for removing old ink (not sharpie). Does anyone know any tricks for removing fountain ink from glossy photos without damage occuring?

Anton, why do you want to do this? Just curious. I've got several old autographs (Ed "Archie" Gardner from Duffy's Tavern, and "Raymond" Edward Raymond Johnson from Inner Sanctum are two of them) and they're addressed to someone else. It doesn't bother me in the least. I just realize they are what they are and feel lucky to have them. Aren't you afraid of damaging the photo?

Yes---thats exactly what I am afraid of. I have this stuff at the house that will wipe sharpie off of anything without damaging the photo. I was just wondering if there was something out there that could remove fountain ink without hurting it. I have never been into personalization. Out of the 100 or so autos I have (small collection, I know) only 2 or 3 are personalized to me. the rest are just signed. It doesnt really bother me per se---but if there was a trick to remove it with no damage to the picture---i would. If there isnt---then thats ok. But I want to check and see what I can. Personal preference, I guess.
