I think I saw your piece from "The Thing" at the Monsterpalooza this year. (Unless someone else did that piece too).  I remember because I really love that movie.  In my opinon, it was the scariest movie for me to watch as a kid.  excellent!

That was a different "Thing bust".
Mine was a private commission made by Steve Wang.

And that's how all good collections begin - small. Never mind the space issues or even the money concerns, if the love is there .. it'll find a way. I know that sounds corny, but it's true. And whatever you do, don't fall victim to the comparison game. It doesn't matter who has what. All that matters is your personal enjoyment of the crap you do own and not obsessing over stuff that you don't. This is the secret to building a long and prosperous monster collection.

That's a great philosophy and a great way to approach collecting, especially for us beginers.

Just came across these very unique photos of Dr. Shocker's House of Horror shot be the very talented Robyn Von Swank  earlier this year.

Can't rememeber if I shared them here.

Great stuff Dan!!!  Was that Groovie Goolies figures I seen in front of the Universal Monsters lunchbox?  Where did you find those?  I seen a Gregory the Vampire Bat also, I had one of those as a kid and loved it!
Long live the UMA!

Thanks Creeper.
Those Groovie Goolies have been in the collection for years. Kind of remember getting some form TOYSHOP others from shows.

Daniel,

Thanks so much for sharing that stuff.  INCREDIBLE collection.  I feel like I owe you admission or at least the price of a Famous Monsters magazine just for getting to look at that.

The Phantom of Paradise piece and the Ernest Borgnine piece from Devil's Rain (as well as the Planet of the Apes stuff) were standouts for me.

God bless you for commiting to the hobby like that.  SO fun to see that stuff.

Does not matter.  This is a virtual tour that is worth taking every couple weeks daily.  I hope your memory concerning these photos continues to fail you and you continue to post them....for our benefit. ;D  Thanks for the post and complete coolness!

What he said.  Please, Daniel... looking at these pics is like picking up a favorite book/ monster mag.  You could do it daily.  I remember a lot of that stuff as a kid from the old Famous Monsters issues and to me, it's nostaligic.  It's very warm for me to look at those pics.  Thanks again and keep 'em coming.

HARRY HAMMOCK

WOW!  I mean WOW!  What a collection.  It's displayed so well and I could look at those pictures over and over many times (and definitely will) and see something new.

I must admit that one of the things I love about the collection is that there aren't many pieces, if any, that are still in their packages.  The figures are out in the open to be enjoyed.  One of the things I'm struggling with as a new collector is, do I keep things in their packages, or not?  Obviously, taking figures out of the bubble packaging will destroy the package, but it's hard to enjoy them the way they were intended if you don't take them out.

Anyway, thanks for sharing the photos...very inspirational.

Depends why you are buying.  If you plan on reselling down the road, then you might keep them in.  However, I stopped buying for resale many moons ago and decided to enjoy what I have.  That is, I buy what I enjoy even if it isn't worth a dime later on.  Unless the box is incredible on its own (Aurora kits) or the figure is cooly displayed within (I love those Hasbro tubes), then get 'em out IMO.  Like you pointed out, that is a big reason Dan's, and many others' collections here are top-shelf.  Great items and displayed with purpose and care.

That makes a lot of sense, Bogey.  Actually, my mindset lately has been to take them out of their packages, but I was trying to gage what the hobby standard was.  Regardless, I enjoy them much more out of the packages and will probably continue to collect/display that way.  Thanks.
