Well, My son likes it and THAT is all that matters!  ;D

I used to be a staunch anti-cutsie monster person, myself. I used to get angry at the doltish looking Frankenstein merchandise and I hated every plush representation of the monsters. But something came over me when my Grand-monster was born. I started buying everthing that looked like a classic monster for him to play with. I'm still particular about the stuff on my shelves, but I admit it- I bought the 5 foot dancing Frankenstein just to amuse a little boy     :)

Just had to share this story

I picked this up to be able to read to our Little Man, Mykhail at night, and started about a week or so ago. In doing this, we start off naming the characters on the book, then in my best scat voice do the Monster Mash Intro. As I've done for years, I proceed to do the song, more like a poem as I can't sing, in my best Karloff--which is not too shabby. The Chorus part is done as Peter Lorre. When we finish the book, I make a rusty hinge sound as the book closes.

Over the weekend, I began to have Little man do the chorus part "The Monster Mash" which he does very sheepishly.

Last night, he would not let me open the book, and after I gave up, he opened the book, then closed it, then did is rendition..

He began with the same sort of opening which I did.

He then proceeded to do the song (most of it unintelligible), BUT, HE DID IT WITH A BORIS KARLOFF IMPERSONATION!!!!!!! I could barely contain myself!

...and if that doesn't beat all, he ends the story, with a the same sound rusty hinge sound effect, and closes the book.

Daddy was nearly in tears, as I laughed and hugged him I told him how very proud of him I was.

We'll not be home until very late tonight, as I'm taking Mrs OG, Christine, to see AL Webbers "Phantom of the Opera" at the Pantages, but we plan on planting a video camera in the room on Friday night in hopes of an encore.

Awwwww- OG, I love that story.  He sounds like such a sweetie! The opening/closing noise is brilliant. I've spent a lot of hours reading stories to my children as well as children in school and I can honestly say that I've never "phoned it in". I go all out with the character voices and emotion, so the story will hold their interest.  I'm a pretty shy person around grown folk, but I totally come to life when reading stories aloud, so I can appreciate a great sound effect when I hear one   :)
