Helen Wagner...AS THE WORLD TURNS RIP

For everyone who ever watched a "Soap Opera", we've lost an icon.  Helen Wagner, who played family matriarch 'Nancy Hughes', has died at the age of 91.    A gracious, warm and intelligent lady, she created a character much like herself...equally warm and loving.

The World is not Turning today....

I'd imagine a high per centage of the role call among UMA member have never watched an episode of AS THE WORLD TURNS, but nevertheless there's not one among us who could hear that Miss Wagner performed on the same tv show, in the same role, for 54 years--a "Guinness World Record"--without marveling at such a career!  As Lawrence Housman wrote in VICTORIA REGINA, "Go it, old girl--you've done it well!  You've done it well!"

I agree, Robert.  The first transcribed "script" I ever made was back in the mid 60s...pre VCR, pre TIVO, pre home PC.  Word for word from an audio tape of ATWT.  Helen Wagner was the "Olivia Walton" of Daytime TV.

To ACTORS!  All of them.  Long may they reign.
